Hi I just got a almost new 6BR it has a 14 twist. The manufacturer told me to stay with a 68 gr or lighter bullet. On the forum this is listed as a varmet not a target round? Will this be as accurate as a heavier bullet in a 10 twist? What round would you start with [bullet,powder,primer oal etc]? I like the idea of a BT instead of a FB because of the ease of starting the bullet into the neck, or isn't that a factor? I hope this will be a target rifle not a varmet rifle. I have been reloading for 20 years but can always use help.

I have a 14 twist 6BR Hart that shoots 65 & 68 grn. bullets with laser like accuracy. The 70 grn. Nosler Ballistic Tips do not do so well. Believe it or not, 65 grn. Hornady V-Maxes shoot as accurately as Bergers, Hammonds, and other custom bullets. I have two loads using the 65 grn. V-Max bullet that does extremely well: 1) Lapua brass with 34.5 grn. Varget CCI small rifle mag primer, bullet touching lands 2) Lapua brass with 31.0 grn. VV135 Federal small rifle match primer, bullet touching lands. I've used Hammond's 65 grn. bullets and Berger 65 grn. bullets with the same loads and level of accuracy; 5 shots into one hole at 200 meters on a calm day. I use 68 grn. Fowlers and 68 grn. Hammonds with 33.8 grn. Varget CCI small rifle mag. primer with equal accuracy.

I have a Cooper M22 Montana Varminter with a 26" barrel. The barrel is supposed to be a 14" twist but, as near as I'm able to tell, it is more like 15". I have been able to shoot any 65 to 68 gr bullet with comparable accuracy and velocity. For the price it's hard to beat 65 gr. Hornady Vmax. The powder I've found that produces the best, with the whole range of bullets, is 32.5 grs. VV N135. Velocities in the 3400-3500fps range. I've also had luck with 35 grs. AA 2520 and 68 gr. bullets.
Another load that has worked really well for me is a 75 gr. Sierra Varminter with 32 grs. Varget, 3115 fps. Any other bullet besides the 75 gr. Varminter or heavier bullet would not hit the paper at 100 yds. in my rifle.
All of these loads will shoot in the .2's with my rifle. Brass is Lapua and primer is CCI BR-4.

I have got to make some changes. I am getting about a .7 moa at 200 yds.

Something else My rifle is based on a 700 bdl and those little bullets don't like to feed into the chamber 1 at a time. I just set it in and give it a little push with my finger and it doesn't like to go. Is there anything I can do about that?

14 twist is the std 100/200 BR twist for 6mm's. 65 to 68 grain bullets should do the biz for that twist. At 200 yds the shooter becomes more important to good groups. I am a pretty consistent .2 to .4 shooter at 100 but at 200 it's more like .7 to 1.0 . I am just about going to quit practicing at 100 yds

Try sitting the cartridge in the action and pushing it most of the way into the chamber with your thumb. On my Savage 112 single shots I can just set the cartridge in the action and close the bolt with no issues. On my Viper I need to slide the cartridge forward with my thumb.

Something else My rifle is based on a 700 bdl and those little bullets don't like to feed into the chamber 1 at a time. I just set it in and give it a little push with my finger and it doesn't like to go. Is there anything I can do about that?

You can try a single round follower that sits on top of your magazine and comes close to a single round angle into the chamber.

They are a little warm but no pressure signs. I would not suggest that anyone go these loads in their rifle without careful work-up.

JWV2001 - I have a Cooper like yours and none of the bullets I use are long enough to reach the lans. Since, like you say, the 75 gr. is about the largest one can use and it won't touch the lans and be seated to any depth in the neck. I don't know why Cooper set the lans out so far for a 14 twist.

I have done some testing setting them in the neck from .150 to .240 and it seems .180 works pretty good for me. I was curious how deep you seat your bullets. I'm using a .268 neck sizer. Any comments about having enough tension with this setup.

I have also had problems getting any grouping with 55 gr. bullets. The heavier ones do much better even discounting the wind. I don't know if they don't do well because they are jumping so far to the lans. Have you had good luck with 55 gr. ones?

I am just getting started with this rifle.

This is what I have noticed with this rifle. A loaded {lapaua brass} round measured .268 at the top of the neck with a bullet installed, so I got a .267 bu. for my die. This seems to give enough neck tension to hold the bullet firmly in place? It seemed to work well and let the bullet slide in the case when left long then chambered to do my T.O.L. = being I don't have a Gage. I know some do this and some don't. I loaded 65gr Vmax jam = 2.130 T.O.L and 68gr Bart jam = 2.308 with plenty of bullet in the neck. Then I subtracted .020 to give it some jump. Using a middle of the road load of powder. I hope to shoot tomorrow.

Keep in mind I am new at this and am not a pro. This is just what I am doing and ""looking for help"".
