6BR H4895 Fliers

I've done several days of load testing with AR Comp, 8208, and H4895 with my 6br & 105 hybrids, and for whatever reason H4895 is giving me random fliers. Where Iam getting 8208 and AR Comp to make nice 5 shot groups consistently (.2s-.3s from an atlas bipod), H4895 might stack 4 on top of each other and then have one open it up to a .7-1 moa group, way outside the group and un-called. I'm using the same primer (450) and seating depths as the other powders. Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks!

I would say barrel/powder/bullet compatibility. Another words your barrel just doesn't like that powder and/or bullet combo. I have
had the same thing happen many times and seems when I changed bullet or powder I achieved different
results.

I’ve not heard of a lot of people using a magnum primer like 450 with h4895. Try it with a non mag like the br4 or fed205m or I’ve had good results with sellier bellot small rifle.

Try a Fed 205m. I would bet that flier goes away.

Thanks, I'll try another primer. A friend suggested I may not be in the node either, so I'll try another ladder test too.

What is your current load with H4895 and the 450 primers? Currently I am using this combo with 107 sierra and really liking it.

I think you all ready answered your own question, two out of three liking the same formula is great but its not a one baked cake kind of deal. Approach H4895 as a individual and it will tell you what it wants in order to clean things up or just shelf the idea for the next barrel as it sounds like you have 2 options that work don't make it complicated.

One tip — record the order of the fliers. If 70+ % of time it is the same round in sequence, such as the second to last of five, it’s the driver, not the ammo.

I would also say, if you are shooting from a bipod, not a rest, the issue could well be technique — even if you say the other powders work better. Let someone else shoot your gun from a rest. I wouldn’t be surprised if the H4895 fliers disappear.

We did a test some years ago. Gun owner was complaining about horizontal fliers. I shot same gun and did a vertical string with zero horizontal. Vertical was from my inconsistent cheek weld. Another shooter got behind the trigger and produced perfect, repeatable round groups.

We then filmed the gun’s owner and discerned he was creating horizontal by yanking his index trigger finger sideways. We had him repeat using his middle finger, which aligns with tendon better, and the horizontal disappeared.

interesting idea to "finger" the trigger with your middle finger for tendon alignment. I'll have to give it a try, just because. Reminds me of a tip I received for making a "heavy" (2 pound) smallbore silhouette trigger feel "lighter": place trigger against last finger joint rather than the finger pad. Pulling against the bone "feels" like less effort than compressing the finger pad. I now pretty much trigger all rifles regardless of trigger weight at the last joint as it is a feeling I've gotten used to.
