6BR, do you like BR-4 or CCI-450 better for heavy bullets

I am currently shooting br-4's with 29.9 grains of Varget and 110's SMK's and 29.5 with 105 hybrids. For those that shoot the heavy bullets out of your BR's what primer do you prefer, BR-2, or 450?

I've tried both, 450Ms have a slight edge in my barrels with Varget.

phewh...tough call...My gunsmith prefers CCI 450 Sooo...I use that in the new BRX barrel for my wife...I'm still using the BR4 type...in my old barrel...next season we will both switch to the old Wolf brand Mag type..If what u R using works & you can find them, no need to switch types or brands...mike in Ct

I'm going to try some sellier bellot smalll rifle primers with h4895 side by side with br4 and post the results. Been using cci450 with no varget. Cautiously optimistic about the sb primer. Several tests have shown it ranks at the top in terms of velocity spreads. Also should be able to handle the pressure. I've run it in high pressure 5.56 loads with no problems.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but what I prefer really doesn't matter. Only what my load & barrel prefers, so I test and listen to what the target tells me. If the targets start lying, I'm gonna take up golf.

I have tried Fed 205M, CCI BR-2, CCI 450 and Rem 7.5's but the Fed 205M worked the best in my rifle

450s have been the primer of choice for me in several barrels in straight BR, Dasher and BRA.. the plain 400s have also shown more promise than the BR-4s in the BRA and Dasher..

The only way to know what works best in your rifle and with your loads is to do the test yourself. This takes good bench rest equipment and technique and takes an investment in time, components and barrel life. Most folks will not do this and this is one area that the opinions of others as to what works for them is not worth much to you; they probably did not do the necessary testing either. Hint, three, three-shot groups will not get you the answer. Mother Nature is a bitch.

^^^^ This has a lot of merit, you really do need to test in your own personal set up as you really don’t know the extent to which others have gone with there testing and what kind of accuracy they are chasing...And yes Mother Nature can be a bitch...

But three shot groups are the easiest.

I think more of it depends on powder used. I see more guys shooting BR4 with Varget and 450 with RE15. Now this is 1000 yard BR, but I get to see a whole bunch of 6MM'S shot. Matt

I agree with this.
Not BR, but one Dasher- 105 hybrid, H4895 likes a 450
Other Dasher, 110 sierra, RL 16 loves a 205M
Maybe bullet used factors in too, but that is over my paygrade.

I cannot afford CCI BR primers
