6BR bullet question

Hi all,..I have a Savage sm shank Shilen ratchet in a 1:8 twist barrel in 6BR. I'm happy w the overall accuracy but of course, always looking for a tad more. The rifle likes 105 Berger Hybrid Targets but favors Berger 108 Boat Tail Target under 30.0 of Varget, .005 in the lands. All the local ranges here in NY are 200yds w a few private ranges out to 1100yds. I would assume I should" try a custom bullet in a similar grain to see if there is more accuracy ? Does anyone have a similar rifle/load that shoots better with a custom over a mass produced bullet ? Thanks in advance :)

Just my opinion…. 105 hybrids and 108 BT’s are going to be hard to beat. I’ve shot some custom bullets and still do but also like the aforementioned along with the 109hybrids. It’ll be hard to shoot the difference unless you’ve got the other 99 variables right if comparing on paper.

I wouldn’t bother with custom bullets. Like others have said the 105 and 108 are tough to beat! Even at 200 you might have a hard time finding something better in an 8” twist. You can sort them and they’ll run right along with the best custom bullets. Sorted 107 Sierra’s too for that matter.

What is the overall accuracy you are getting now?

Occasionally 3/8" to 1" groups at 200 yds. I was just curious if this is on par for this rifle/cartridge ? PS I've had better days and also worse :)
Wind flags are truly the most important tool you can have when it comes to real accuracy and/or precision. There are really very few cases of what some call, "no wind" conditions. That bullet(any) feels every bit of it. We all have good days and bad days but you'll have a lot fewer bad ones with some sort of flags out. Do you use flags yet?

You may be happy with less but the adage and standard for br accuracy at 200 is to consistently keep 5 shot groups in the .3's. Not MOA. Sounds like your gun shoots pretty well and I'd bet you have a lot less 1 inch groups even if you just put out about 4 or 5 streamers on coat hangers, if nothing else.

I literally made 3 last week for my rimfire matches. I’ll use these too at my center fire matches too. I’m in. Thank you :)

here is a prime example. shot three in one hole, then the one at 10:00 or so. no more than said 'wth', looked up from the scope and the streamer was standing out at 09:00. my condition was 06:30 or 07:00. this with good bullets at 100 yds in 6br. so.... View attachment 1581023
Now you know wind doesn't move a bullet at 100 yards like that! Lol!

Ammerman makes good bullets. I'd try some 68s at those yardages. His bullets are cheaper than bergers. I feel your pain about the ranges in NY. It sucks.
