6BR Build - First 6BR

ducks-and-bucks

Im getting stuff together to start ordering parts for my first 6BR build. As I may do some unlimited weight class club shoots and lots of target shooting on my own I have a fair idea of what im after... so im not too worried about weight or anything here, just a straight up fun target rifle.

Heres my ideas - dont bash me, im a newby to the 6BR!

Defiance machine deviant- left port, right bolt handle, single shot, tactical bolt knob, target tang, deep fluted bolt, extended tennon, case extractor only, no ejector/plunger... and for that defiance will not drill that hole in the bolt face so I will have no hole for brass to flow back into...

Question - bolt nose - cone, flat, recessed... what does it matter and why? Is there any benefits between them?

Brux or bartlien barrel 1:8 twist? 1.25 straight pipe 26 inches long???

Berger 105 gr match hybrid target bullets

Jewell trigger

Mcmillan mbr - medium blue 50% white 50% marble finish

Lapua brass - I wouldnt mind a little neck turning... but not much... advice??

Redding type S dies?? Neck bushing??

I dont mind if I have to buy a pt&g reamer... I want a tight chamber, not sure about the freebore I need...

I use a .268 neck and a .104 freebore. I think you be good with either barrel. But if it were me I would get a dual port, in case you ever need to get them down range fast.

ducks-and-bucks,

I would do a No turn neck, With about 0.002" clearence. Get Harrell's F/L bushing dies, you will need the F/L size sooner or later. Everything sounds good.

For a single shot 6BR, I would get a cone nose bolt. It aids in smooth feeding.

Are you sure they have a right bolt left port option? They show several different port options, but RBLP is not one of them. Why the Deviant action over the Rebel if you are doing a 6BR? I have a 6.5X47 built on a Rebel medium action with the target tang, larger lug and 20 moa integrated rail. It was the first Defiance action my gunsmith had built a rifle on, and he said it was as good or better than any of the other top names in custom actions.

As far as stock options, it sounds like the MBR will work for quite a few different applications (might be iffy for f-class). I would also go with a 28" finish on the barrel over 26". With a straight pipe you can always set it back and have the 26" for the barrels second life.

Since your going with a high end custom I would definitely look at the dual port option. I didn't think I would like one till I shot one. Now I also have a left port and would trade it in a second for a dual port. It's kinda nice just putting some kind of catcher on the ejection side and not having to even think about brass.

I also agree that you'd want a 28" instead of a 26".

I run a MBR and like it a lot.

If you think you must have a tight chamber....better get a re-size reamer that will work with the chamber reamer. Personally I avoid tight chambers like the plague from past experiences.
