6br bug bad. cutting a 243 ?

have a chance at a nice 700 vs in 243. have the 6br bug REAL bad. was wondering if it is worth it to cut the shank, assuming i can) on the 243 barrel to rechamber or will the shank be to short? also, twist is a bit high for big stuff....

i realize a rebarrel would be the obvious answer but i would like to see if i can make this gun really shoot with all factory hardware. that is of course if i can use the factory barrel....

thanks from a newbie

Hi i purchased a brand new Rem 700 VLS in 243 then sent it to the gunsmith we set the barrel back and made it a 6mm BR 271 neck i also had it pillar bedded and the barrel choped to 22" the rifle will shoot 1/4 to 3/8" groups with premium hunting bullets and Benchrest bullets aswell it is a great option. My father had the smae rechambering done to a Sako 243 without the bedding and left the barrel 23" it shoots under 1/2" with the sporter barrel so there you go but these are not benchrest guns they are for hunting and spotlighting.
