6BR as single shot or repeater

I am just getting ready to start my build sheet and originally had imagined this as a single shot action but are there any issues with magazine feeding if it were going to be a repeater? Plan on using Lapua brass with Berger 105's and hoping to do this right the first time

I posted a video on this thread a week or so ago. It is a Bighorn tl3 cycling Dasher rounds very fast out of a unmodified Magpul mag.

Clearly some people can make a 6br feed well, at least long enough to make a video. I haven't had much luck. I shoot mostly single shot but if I were going to make a repeater, I'd go to a longer cartridge. 6xc would be my choice.

I've shot single shot out of repeater action with 1.25" straight 30" barrels on them with no problem so for small rounds like this you can make a repeater work just fine. That said, i own 4 Rem SS action for building various rifles on just because the extra stiffness provided by the single shot can't hurt.

I appreciate the reply Jerry as I have read where feeding from a magazine is not a given with the 6BR. It seems like at least two of the videos posted here are using some type of modified or aftermarket magazines in order to cycle properly.

Feeding is less often the problem than ejection. The short BR case can be pushed off the extractor by a spring plunger ejector before the case clears the action port, and the empty ends up backwards on top of the next round, preventing the new round from feeding. The Kelbly Atlas Tactical has a fixed ejector, so doesn't put any pressure on the case head until the bolt is fully rearward.

This is exactly the problem I've always had when using a Remington action, single shot or repeater. I supposed the problem could be rectified by installing a sako or mini 16 extractor in the bolt. A Remington will also dent the case mouths when it extracts due to the short length of the BR case.

You can slightly adjust your factory 700 ejector spring for proper ejection or put a Sako extractor in it or just buy a Borden. There are many ways to solve the problem. It’s not rocket science. The massive amount of PRS shooters would not be switching over to the BR sized case if there was not a reliable feeding and ejection solution.
