6br annealing

i have loaded my cases for the third time, have only necked sized so far. I am using lapua brass and shooting a encore, when should i consider annealing the case or full resize is there anything i should watch for in the process Thank You

I have shot my Lapua 6BR cases over 30 times without annealing or trimming. I need to anneal now as the necks are not gripping the bullets. But, surpringly, I can still shoot those loosely-held bullets into the x-ring at 600yds,NRA highpower target) !

If you neck-size only, watch for a change in the re-sized OD of the necks as you process cases.

Annealing will help reduce spring-back; as your brass work-hardens it'll be more prone to return to a larger diameter so you'd need to use a smaller bushing to get back to the diameter you prefer.

Smaller bushing = greater dimensional change to the brass necks & greater work-hardening.

You know what your chamber neck diameter is? How much larger is that number than your loaded neck diameter?,The difference tells you how much the neck expands when a cartridge is fired.) Subtract your bushing ID from the chamber neck size, you'll know how much your brass is being pushed around.

> Steve has a point: neck tension doesn't have to be great to provide accurate loads! I shoot .308 cases with .001' neck tension, the difference between a sized but empty neck & the same neck with a bullet in it) and trust my rounds to shoot < 1 MOA @ 1k but I shoot with a sling & iron sights so they might be even better than I can shoot 'em! <

Less is more when it comes to case life.

Charles check Mike Bellms website about reloading for your Encore, I think you'll see the reason that he wants everything FL resized in order to obtain correct headspace in a Encore.
