6BR- Ackley Improved 40 degree

That's as technical as you need to get, hard to argue with experience and results. The guys I've read about using 28" barrels, some are well accomplished shooters have chosen that length for a very good reason I would think.. Probably not going to hurt me any by trying for myself. Thankyou

Cheers Rushty

with a 8 twist 26" and 103 bullets 2974, 26" 12 twist and 80 gr. bullets 3250+ and no issues... Jim
FWIW, I'm getting more speed than that with the 80's, from a straight 6mm Grendel, which has slightly less case capacity that a straight 6BR. I've shot them at 3400 but the brass seems to be happy at around 3300. Accuracy is very good there, too.

Really, I never heard of that kind of velocity, Bart told me it was hard on cases at 3300. I have no trouble to get well past that but it shoots so good there and is very easy on cases....... Jim

In all fairness, I haven't shot the Barts 80s yet. I've shot Some Berger and several EPS 80s and these velocities were reachable. I backed off on the 3400 load in my gun but 3300 seems good.

28 it is then Jas haha bring it on

yes, I understand. I went way past with 8208 and never tried any other powder so far and it shot so good I saw no reason to. The 103 will chew them up at 300 yds. and beyond, if there is any wind at all

Yep more than likely will be trying 28" straight up, also will be trying 2208 and 2206H, 107 SMK, 105VLD Huntings and 103 Copperheads.Once my reamer arrives I will have Dave chamber it up, form some brass then some very early mornings for me load testing.. hopefully I can get it to shoot..Will let you know how it progresses.

if my barrel has turned up get him to chamber mine haha

Just in the last couple weeks I had reports on fireform accuracy from some customers. One shot 5 5 shot groups at 100 that agged in the .2s another did the same at 200 and agged .3smoa another is shooting 10 shot groups at 600 3-4". Id say that great for not using wind flags, fireforming random loads and bullets, these kind of reports are the norm. Thanks to Sam Hall and all the other guys that started shooting this case so we could pick up on it :)

Just as a matter of interest I found this old post from 2006, not sure if this fellow is still around but he was onto something back then and probably didn't know it !

I sure had a pleasant Sunday, hope all else here did as well. This was the quickest load I have ever found. 6 BR-AI started with 30 grains H4895, looking at numbers, bumped it to 30.6, then to 30.8, went to 31 and then bingo, shots 8, 9, jumped into a bughole, went back loaded 2 more, and was pleased as punch with a .099" 4 shot group 8, 9, 10, 11 and I called it for that barrel. Will see how she shoots at distance this Sunday.

The lower center had been shot previo?usly, only 1 cold bore landed on the center lower target, made adjustment and 6 o`clock were 2 touching, another had 2 more touching in the 12 o`clock black, the 30.8 was the 2 snake eyes, and 31 was gorgeous!! The 31 grain load is exactly where it is supposed to be according to a reliable source @ 2922 fps

Barrel info, vintage Brux 8.25 twist, 1.200 straight taper, 25 1/4" length chambered by yours truly using the Norma Dasher reamer held short with 6BR go gauge with .001" crush, 1.075" headspace on my BAT model B. Max length chamber doing so is 1.537" after firing, cases pull back to 1.530"

My complete sincere thanks goes out to Larry Moore of Hillbilly bullets for listening to this old timer and trying a new weight in his long range dies. He is a pearl of a fine gentleman.
