6BR, 6BRA, Dasher for 87-Vmax

Not sure there's any advantage to shooting 87's. The Hornady Cartridge Reloading book #2 is an amazing compendium of drop tables for every bullet they make. A lot of computer time in this. The numbers are staggering and comparing the 87Vmax with 58Vmax was eye-opening for me. My 6BR 55/58gr load is over 3800, so for 6BRA I'll just say 3800 although it'll be more. And the 6BRA I figure 3400 with a 24/25" barrel and 87Vmax. Hornady data says, with 200yd zero...... at 300yds the 87 drops 5.2", the 58 drops 4.8"....... at 400yds the 87 drops 15.2", the 58 drops 14.9. I wouldn't have thought that. Holdover when varminting is no big deal so these numbers are really no big deal. There are no windage tables. Also at my 6500' elevation the BC becomes considerably higher than what's given by the factory, so trajectories will be noticeably flatter up here. But according to these numbers I'm not sure there's any point in shooting 87's. Through a standard 6BR the 55's and 58's are very effective on chuck size and smaller targets, but I've never used 87's and can't compare them. .
While I vastly prefer to shoot 55s/58 6mm bullets, 90% of the time at sage rats and pairie dogs...the middle-weights (87 vmax) and Heavies have their place. For prairie dogs, it's not about the drop...we have rangefider and doping for that (I use rangefinder paired to a kestrel)...so I could care less about drop. IT's about the wind mostly. The 87s much better in the wind than 55s or 58s...and the 105s/108s are better yet in the wind. Plus, if you look at the retained velocity at 400+ yard shots, the 87s are much better...and hit MUCH harder at those distances (if your into to slamming them hard). That's the allure of the 87s. So they have their place.

For me, having flat shooting gun is more important when shooting rats...we aren't typically ranging these things, so having a round that will connect out to 300 with little-to-know holdover is valuable...where is where the 'lil 55s and 58s shine!

*6BR I run will push the 58s 3,950 in you want to run it hard...the Dasher over 4,100fps no problem.

They shoot like crap. Compared to anything I've tested.

What do? The 87s? Because those darn things seem to be more hit or miss than any other bullet...some guys getting "BR groups" at middle ranges, and other guys/barrels simply won't shoot them at all.

Yes this 87 vmax. Compared to Bergers and Sierra, or even other Hornady it shoots very poorly. In terms of grouping. It also requires more freebore than a Berger 108.

Just out of curiosity, what is this 6mmMax you speak of...
Sorry for the late response , just got home from 7 days on the road.

The 6mmMAX utilizes a 350 legend parent case necked to 6mm. Holds 35gr water cap.
OAL of 2.300
All of our load data is lab pressure tested to saami specs of 55k . More data being added and published this week as we filled in some holes and added powders. 55gr=3500+ fps and 70gr=3300+fps, 87gr=3000+, 100gr=2760fps.
These are all 24” Bartlein test barrel.
Hope this helps , our web is online and tells all.
Hoping for dies 1st week in November . I’m Gonna call lee tomorrow for update. We will be offering a package to include upper , dies and 100 cases made with Warner dies.
I’m Happy to answer any questions you have via email , text or phone.
