What range of bullet weight will a 1-14 twist handle ? Would it handle a 75-80 gr Berger ?

us"" xs's"" gota stik together,,,,I know what the books say ,,,but,I have shot a bunch of 14 twist BR's over the years,,,and have got "some" 80's to work,,,in mine the Bergers will and the Fowlers will not,,,neither will the Sierras!!!...It is all about BC and bulelt length and desighn ,,,not that one is a better bullet over the other,,,.with 14 twist you are on the "edge" at 74-75gr ,,,you just gota try em,,,I will never get another 14,,,13.5 or 13 for my bench guns from now on,,,esp with the popularity of the 66-68 gr BT's...Roger

+1. The book is a GENERAL GIIDE, not an absolute. Until you try it, you won't know what works or doesn't work in YOUR PARTICULAR RIFLE.

xpilot,

Every 14 tw 6BR that I have had would shoot the 80 gr Berger very well. You will have to try them and see.

Roger which twist would you pick? I am thinking a 8 twist or a 10 twist.I have a 14 twist and it doesnt like anything much over 70 grains.

Hi Jon,,,Mark is rite,,,,an 8 twist will shoot em all...even the 60-70 gr blullets,,,VERY well...and the 105 class are perfect,,,,Roger

When this question comes up I rarely see the intented purpose of the rifle. The rule of thumb is to get the slowest twist that will stablize the range of bullets that you intend to shoot for the best accuracy. The 1-14 twist is great at short range with up to 70g bullets, of course that really depends on the bullets length, more than weigth. I use 2 6MM BR's, both in 1-14 twist, at our club shoots at both 100 and 200 yards using 68g bullets. At 200 yards my 6MM BR is keeping pace with those shooting 6 PPC's.
