600 yd. practice at 100 yards????

I go out to my field at 1100 or 1200 first thing in the morning before the wind picks up if I am testing at distance. Like I said 90+ % is already done. I might tweak seating or a primer but at that distance in the perfect conditions you can see the capabilities of the rifle/load. I would never do this during the day or in wind or conditions I do shoot in those just not for load testing purposes. Like I said before 2 guns that shoot in the 1's might not be capable of the same groups at 1000, if you can why not improve on what you can.

Donovan, I watched some of the Video's and the range flag never moved, is what leads me to state that. Never been to cool acre's but Harry isn't a honey hole any more..... That is history, switching wind is a way of life here, but wind flags work at 100 and with the arch of the bullet you will have a rough time set them at 5-600 ....... Jim

One can look at wind data nationally and see the obvious that the East has far less wind speed and wind gust then does the Central, and West. Or locally: attached is yearly wind speed averages for the fallowing range area's:

Can't speak to Harry Jones, but one thing Deep Creek has is what I will call the "2-Minute mirage" that lingers in there often when it is calm. I prefer there known Easternly head wind when I go out there. Can't help but think your spoiled compared to what I shoot here in most days... lol

I'm lucky to have a crop filed to shoot in to 1600 yards. 44.3-45 gr in my gun showed little vertical in a ladder test. I shot them at 100 and the all powder charges were under 1/4 moa with 44.6 and 44.8 being the best. So Tuesday I loaded up 9 at each charge and shot them at 800. I would not have known this if I didn't shoot at distance.
9 shots at 44.6. Right at 3" tall and 3" wide. Not bad for shooting off a bipod.

44.8. The 2 high ones were from me slapping the trigger.
