Outstanding shooting, Rodney

But you are only half done,
Double that size at 1000 yards and show them how it's done.

Great Shooting and keep after them, Eggman.

Tia,
Don

That is impressive. I had no idea anything even close to this could be achieved. Does anyone know what the old record was?

The IBS lists the current (officially established) LG 600-yard group record at 0.699", set by Sam Hall on 6/12/2010. Interestingly, the LG score record currently on the book is also held by Sam Hall, a 50, set on the same day. However, since the tie-breaker is based on group size, the 50 shot by Rodney should be the new Score Record also, once approved. SEE:

Rodney's 0.349" is 49.93% of 0.699", so Rodney chopped the record in half. Nice shooting!

Amazing Shooting!! No doubt, this group will go down in history, and immortalize the Dasher just as the PPC was in the short range game. Way to go Rodney!

WOW!!!...AWESOME!!!! Congratulations Rodney!! That is just simply amazing, can't imagine how you felt, I bet that smile couldn't have been knocked off your face with dynamite! I am very happy for you, what a neat accomplishment!

Nice shooting Rodney!! that will be hard to beat for sure.

I was at St Louis's match the same day and seen Jerry Kloppel shoot a .658 to break the exisiting record , and thought to myself that will stand for some time, I was wrong..

Jerry followed it up by shooting a 2.5" agg for the light gun win in some conditions that were not favorable.

So to the both of you , a big congratulations from the Vapor Trail Valley Crew

Tom and Rory

That is just UNBELIEVEABLE!!! You will carry that in your memory as one of the high points in your life for as long as you live. And that is not an easy range to shoot well on either. Congratulations!!

Congratulations Rodney...........

I had to stare at your accomplishment for some time, truly amazing.

I`m sure this will stand for a long time,i`m still shaking my head thinking about it...

Phil.

I have been looking at that group since it was posted and its like I still cannot believe that I'm seeing a group shot at 600 yards. Truly incredible you have to be one very happy shooter. Congratulations!!!

Congratulations Rodney! I'm glad to see all your efforts in building your own rifles come together for you!

Had a long conversation with Rodney today over the phone. He shared some interesting facts.

1. The record group was shot in no more than 12 seconds, and he actually paused between shots #4 and #5 to move off his target and view flags positioned lower.

2. When fire-forming he uses a softer primer (such as a CCI 200 or Winchester). The harder CCI 450s are used for match rounds.

3. He throws his powder but then hand-trickles to the kernel, measured with a Sartorius lab scale.

4. He sorts his loaded match ammo based on seating force values, as indicated on a K&M arbor press with seating force gauge. He tries to create sets of five (5) rounds with a seating force within a 5-digit spread as shown on the dial indicator. For example if he has ten rounds, five with a seating force around 30 will be segregated together, and then five with a seating force around 35 (on the dial) will be the next row in his loading tray.

5. The ammo for the record group was loaded 5 days before the match. Neck tension may have increased a bit during that period.

6. He tumbles his brass after every firing, but he normally does NOT anneal his brass during the course of the season.

ah ha...rodney's secret is out!(at least one of them). "a K&M arbor press with a seating force gauge". no question about it, variations in neck tension alters pressure and therefor shot location. i have sorting loaded cases based on how hard or easy the feel of bullet seating but such a tool is MUCH MORE accurate, obviously.
