600 yard shooting.

got to shoot 600 yards on sat. for my first time. it was amazing. farthest i shot before that was only 385. deer would have a chance on a calm day. ground hog standing bout 50%. ground hog on all fours bout 20% chance of hitting it. Still got work to do but it was amazing day. im hooked for life.

toby: You're absolutely correct. It becomes really "interesting" at distances greater than 300 yds. for me. The more I become involved in longer distances, the less I find myself interested in 100, and even 200 yds. Use those shorter distances to sight-in a scope, and develop a good load, then on to greater "things". All this requires rifle & spotting scopes with more distance capabilities, but just another learning experience. :)

Yes, welcome to the very addictive world of long distance shooting. There seems to be a never ending learning curve which is the fantastic part.

My guns will shoot, I am trying to learn how to read the wind!!!!!!! I am shooting with some of the best, but it's still tough!

i shoot a 7mm rem mag. i'm kinda more interested in shooting animals in the long run at long distances. id mostly like to shoot 12 x 12 gongs and clay pigeons as far away as possible. should make me a good hunter. shoot prone a lot with a bi pod. usually no rear bags. it is awesome. all of it. no matter what the discipline. so vast. possibilities are enless. if you start to get bored at all you can just slightly lean another direction and keep going.

Toby,

You are hooked. I had my Varmint gun restocked in 2000' My gunsmith said to come out the next day to a 1000 yds benchrest match. I shot a 22" group, but hit a clay sighting in and was hooked. The longer you shoot the better you will get.

i have a savage model 12 f/tr chambered in 7mm rem mag. i also own a cooper model 21 chambered in 221 fireball. don't know whats next. probably 243 beater i can drag through the woods and take animals with. missed a coyote on tuesday night. clipped a branch that wasn't visible but was right in front of my barrel. ;D. whoops.

model 12, I have a 243 that shoots anything! All I did was bedded the stock on my VLP Savage 243. Now that I have a 6x47 and 6.5x47, my 243 barely comes out of the closest. I don't want to sell it becuase it's definetly a tack driver!

Don't Metallic Silhouette shooters do that all the time?

Dont knock the 100 and 200 yard stuff as it is very challenging. Competion is very tough! Putting all five shots in a .185 group is thrilling and hard to do. I love all shooting myself! Lee
