600 yard shot on a ground hog

Hope to make a 600 yard shot on a ground hog. Shoot a 7mm rem mag(9.5 tw) , a 243(9.25 tw), and a 223(AR-9 tw). What bullets do u suggest?

70 grain Ballistic tips or Sierra Blitzkings for 243, 120 V-max for 7mm, and 69 Sierra Matchking for the 223. In 243 if you use around 42 grains of Varget with the 70 grainers and a 210 primer it reaches out to 600 yards really nice. Out of my rifle it clocks 3676 fps and shoots great.

If you want to go further I would recommend the 162 grain A-max for the 7mm, and the 95 grain VLD for the 243, terminal effects won't be there but once you get that far out past 600 yards BC beats velocity every time.

75 grain A-Max loaded long and singularly. 162 A-Max in the 7mm, and my .243 AI is a 1 in 14" twist however I have no problem shooting the Berger 66 gr. High BC FB at 3950 fps to 600. 7 MOA "come up" from 200 yard zero.

I shoot the 75 gr amax out of my 223AI 9tw and it blows the groundhogs up. Also shoot the 105 vlds out of my 6x47 Lapua so I would deffinantly say run the 95 or 87 grain VLDs and the 162gr amax out of your 7mm will do great. I love the amax line of slugs for an all around good shooting and hunting slug.

Ya know if you want a 600 yard hog shot, take it with any of the guns you have. I would not work out any kind of special load or bullet combination. Anything reasonable will easily do the job at that range with your guns. Last week I hit a 4" gong at 600 yards with my little Marlin 30-30. Couple shots to find the drop and then one hit and two close misses the next three. It's no big deal.

The key is you are looking essentially for ONE SHOT. It's not that you want to repeatedly shoot targets or competition or prairie dogs at that range. You want ONE hog.

Why waste lots of money on bullets, loading, testing etc? It's one shot. Take it.

for your .223 with the 9" twist, i would try the 70 berger vlds. they shoot very flat and are a very slippery bullet.

Only problem with Captainmals just one shot theory is you may waste just as much time and money throwing slugs down range trying to git that one shot just in the right area. As to where you could spend a little time and money gitting to know your gun and what load it like so when it comes time to send that one shot down range its a controlled shot with confinence behind it. Just my two cents tho....

Model 12...I agree with the Sniper too.

Preparation is fun in it's own right. All your guns are very capable. If you want to take the time and effort to prepare - GREAT. Do it.

If you just want to finally kill one "out there", drop test what you are using and get out there before the grass gets too high.

I hunted hogs in Pennsylvania for decades before moving to Florida. Miss doing that. Have fun and shoot one for me.

Its somewhat surprising what a 6mm 105 AMax will do to a varmint. If you get a good solid center body hit they get MESSED UP. Big time.

I've shot em with a 162 A-max out of a 7mm rem mag. Inside 300 yards. Big mess. Out a ways passes through usually. Only baseball size exit wound.

243cal will be more than ample.i shoot 222rem mag 52gr. sie . i suggest what ever bullet shoots the best on paper at 300yds. somewhere around 3/4 " to 1 1/8" should do the job at 600yds. T.R.
