6 XC

What can u tell me about the 6 XC
the good, the bad and whatever? Recoil etc?
I have read a little about it lately.
thanks

I have one in a bench rifle, and another that I use as a walk around varmint rifle.

What I've found is that they are easy to load for, very good velocity capability, recoil is going to depend upon your set up of course, but expect recoil to be between a 22-250 and less than a 243. Darned nice round!! I like it a lot.

Lastly, for brass, just buy the Norma from Tubbs. It is quality brass and saves a butt load of time and effort. :D WD

I have one set up as a F-Class with a R700 action, Krieger barrel. Very easy to load with accuracy almost as good as a 6BR. Mine shoots 105 Bergers and 115 DATs about 2950fps with no pressure signs. Agree with above comments re:brass and recoil. To me, it is a joy to shoot.

Just read on the 6PPC, etc forum
David Tubb 1mile video question

You will find this quite useful. In my rifle, the DAT 115 gr. go 0.26" and the Berger 105s go 0.30"

A really great round. Although ballistically very similar to a 6-6.5x47 Lapua, it is infinitely easier to make work. The achilles heel is the proprietary nature of the brass and dies. If Lapua made the brass, and good match dies were offered by the biggest and best, then it would be a real honey.

39 grains of H4350 and a 115 grain Beger VLD 15 thou into the lands and it was sub quarter minute at 200 yards. I found the actual Norma brass easier to find, and they "age" very differently from the Tubb, so although it may be that Tubb brass is made by Norma, something appears to be different.

I highly recommend it. Get a tighter neck and turn your brass. This will really be the trick for acurate long distance shooting. I suspect Berger will be doing a Hybrind 115 and in keeing with traition, it will make a good bullet even better BC wise, meaning it will be nipping at the heels of 6.5mm's.

If Berger brings out a Hybrid 115 to rival the 142 6.5mm , watch out for the 6XC. I have a supply of Norma brass and DAT 115 Boron coated bullets that I have been using.
Obtunded has it right on his excellent analysis of the round.

...

Please explain. Does this mean that it is difficult to form the 6-6.5x47 brass, or that it is difficult to "tune" the loads (powder, charge weight, seating depth, etc.)?

Thanks,

Randy

I would pretty much agree with everything above, especially that the 6xc will shoot really well and with minimal effort, but I would eschew the Norma brass, as that always seems to be the "sticking" point (pun intended) when someone has a problem with the 6xc. I have some of each generation that was done by Tubb/Norma and I finally got to the point (which didnt take long to figure it out) that its not worth using. Forming 6xc from 22-250 brass is downright easy and you got two really good choices....Winchester and Lapua. The Win isnt as consistent weightwise but it doesnt form doughnuts and the stuff just lasts forever. The Lapua is very consistent, though not as good as the old gold box stuff (was never any gold box 22-250 that I know of though, but talking vs other cals) and will form neck doughnuts that will be an issue on a short throat or new bbl. So if you need to cut the nuts, well, thats a little effort there.

And, for now, the 115s are a moot point as the new 105Hybrid is well worth taking a look at. Just "tested" them yet again this weekend and was very happy with the results during a 600 yard weeked at Butner. I had a really good 108BT load in this gun and while it shoots really well too, the 105s held better elevation and definitely did better in the switchy winds than the 108s. I suspect we are going to see more Hybrids on the horizon. 798-50 with the 105s, 797-51 with the 108s. But, both 9s with the 105s were all me, and only one of the 108 9s was me...or called, for that matter.

Before investing in 115s, one should try the 105Hybs as I dont think there will be much disappointment. :-)
