6 XC Help

First one for me read good things
Building a XP 100 in 6 XC
17" barrel Bartlien
Where can I find reloading
info for it I am using 105 bergers

Using a 17" barrel invites faster powders to rise and fall pressure within the span. I would look to 4895 and others in that realm.

You'll like that XP 100 in a 6 XC, I'm assuming it's the handgun. I have a 6X47L Jon Beanland built on the XP 100 R and it is a hoot to shoot . It has a 15 1/2 " 8 twist barrel and I shoot 105 Bergers VLD's on top of H 4350 powder. Constantly shot prairie dogs this summer @ 400-500 yards. Very fun firearm, you'll enjoy yours.

H 4350 and RL 17 are very popular for the 6 XC. Start with 38 gr and work up from there with 105 Bergers. My guess is the H 4350 works the best. I have two of them and both prefer the Hodgon powder as well as my 6x47L's

I've been using IMR 8208XBR in my 6XC'S for several years behind Berger 105VLD's. With 13" less barrel I think it'll work well for you, just work up a load you can tolerate for recoil that doesn't waste LR case heads.

Spclark

Where did you get the load info for 8208xbr

Spclark: Where did you get the load info for 8208xbr

I worked it up the year it arrived on the scene, basing my starting load on scant available data for other cartridges of about the same case capacity. Took three loads the first session: #1 shot amazingly well at 600 yards, #2 showed pressure signs first off, #3 I never fired.

Later experienced showed that first load up on the edge so I backed off. I've used it ever since at the slightly lower charge weight.

Contact me via PM if you want specifics. Some folks maintain 8208XBR's too fast for 6XC but in my rifles it seems to work safely & well.

Could you also shoot me a PM on your 8208XBR loads for the 6xc. I may do a 16" rifle also.
Thanks..Tim

Ok what's a good starting grain
Someone told me faster burning powder with a short barrel should be better

Good deal and hallelujah, someone finally thinking outside the box.

The XC can be used in shorter barrels and is very accurate with 1-12 and 1-10 twists with lighter bullets and coated bullets. And more often than not powders in the 8208 to R-15 burn rate are just the ticket to making them work.WD
