6 xc or 6x47

I am trying to decide between the two also. I want to build a rifle for a 70 - 75gr bullet. The positive I see for the 6xc is available factory brass, although not Lapua. The 6x47L seems to be more popular with more available load data, but I sure read lots of issues with necking the 6.5 down. Plus I really get tired of the extra step in preparing the case and I worry over expected case life due to work hardening of the necks.

I do not like the idea if sizing down either.I have also read that david tubbs bump die and micro seater are a good set up.Anyone heard how the new norma brass is holding up in the xc.

I have both.

Brass prep and longevity are a non-issue with the 6X47, I have brass with 15 firings and is still going strong. XC is an easy cartridge to make work - way easier than the Lap from my experience.

If your purpose is only hunting, it doesn't matter which way you go. The only advantage with the Lapua is the small primer, otherwise, dead even. I have to ask the obvious though, why not 243?

barrel life is one reason.but mostly i do not like the short neck of the 243,i want to shoot a wide vatiety of bullets, light and heavy .i think if I throat it for 115 the 95 might be a little to short.

I've read that the 6xc brass can be made from the plentiful 22-250 cases. That could be an advantage if there was a lack of Finnish brass available on market.

I've got a 6XC...8 twist Pac Nor...Handles 75-107s just fine...weighing 15# would not classify it as a deer rifle...the modest charge of 36-37 grs of powder one thinks the barrel may last a long time...brass is easy...buy Norma XC brass @ $85/100 or so...or 22-250 Win @ $30/100 and push it in your FL Redding die and shoot it...if I were looking for a 6mm deer rifle...I'd go buy a Tikka laminated SS 243....call it good....;)

I'm gonna vote for 6XC. Sorry, I'm just showin off my wares....

Thanks Jim.

Winters, I have 3 loadings on some of the Norma 6XC brass and the primer pockets are as tight as when I started. I have enough to wear atleast three barrels out.LOL.....

dearlallen,

Does the 6xc stack in 223 AR mag stagered,or one on top another?

Will the Berger 70 gr.VLD bullet mag/load in AR mag and will a
1-9 barrel work?

Thanks Gary

The T2K rifle uses AR10 or SR25 mags and the round is stagered.

"The T2K rifle uses AR10 or SR25 mags and the round is stagered."

Sorta, kinda. None of mine will use a standard AR10 or SR25 mag...they may go in, but they dont come out well! Some "type" of mag, but, at least in my T2ks, not interchangable, at least in that direction.

The T2K uses SR25 308 mags. I have also used DPMS mags but the Stoner mags work better. The DPMS mags were a little snug in the magwell.

I have decided on the 6xc.Also looking forward to the new 111gr .I called mister tubb and he said it would most likely be 2 to 4 weeks before they would be avalible.By the way he was a extremely nice, and went out his way to answer all my quetions.

I could sorta get a DPMS mag to go in, but getting it out was a different matter! SR25 mags go in too, but they dont like to come out. For XTC use, neither are acceptable in any of my rifles. That sucks, cause I could have gotten boat loads of the DPMS mags for less than $20 each.

You will also find that T2k mags are not necessarily interchangeable between rifles. Not an issue if you only own one T2k, but several of us that have them, own more than one. Testing and marking mags is a must.

Mudcat, Are you using the 10 or 20 round mags? Mostly, I use 10 round mags and have had zero issues with the 10's.....just curious.

That may be it, I have only had access to the 20 rounders. Dont have 10s or know anyone that does to try them. 20s dont work, but wish they did...would be cool for "tacticool"use :-)
