6 xc loads

Hello all,

I am building a 6 xc, and every where I look loading powder of choice is h4350, or a few others I can t get my hands on. I have found people talking about varget and imr 4350 , but no starting loads are given, I have and can get these powders so I would like to start with these loads, so any help would be greatly useful. My rifle I has 28 inch 8 twist barrel and I intend to shoot 105 and 107 grn. Bullets thanks in advance

I had best velocities and good accuracy with either 4350 (Accurate makes one as well) or Reloader 17 (some think it is hard on throats - I am one of them). I felt Varget was too fast for best velocity but it will go bang. I am seeing H4350 around town here in Oregon FWIW.

I use 4831sc for my PT&G "Long Range", tight neck reamered 6XC loads in my Long Range and Tactical rigs, topped off with Berger 105gr. Hybrids (I use the SMK 107s for fire-forming my Lapua 22-250 brass). My accuracy load is 41gr. so start @ 39gr. and use Erik Cortina's "Long range load development at 100 yards."

I hear people are having good luck with IMR 4451 (I use H4350 right now). Some also use H4831. <edit for dumbassity>

For IMR 4451 try 36gr as a start load under a 105gr.

Have just started working with a new 6XC - Krieger .237" bore, 1-8tw, finished at 26", on a trued Howa 1500 in a McM A5 w/PTG DBM. The two powders I've tried so far are IMR 4350 & 4451, both with moly'd S107MKs. Started out a little too warm - based the start charges on what I've seen with these two powders in a couple of 6x47 Lapua rifles, but this 6XC bbl might well prefer lighter charges than the slightly smaller 6x47.

40grs of 4451 was definitely too warm - got slightly stiff bolt lift and casehead extrusion into the ejector plunger hole in the boltface, using Norma brass. Fired only one round, pulled the rest and reduced charge weight to 39.2grs. Haven't had time to do more shooting with the reduced charge yet.

39.7grs of IMR4350 gave easy bolt lift, no ejector wipe, and very slight primer cratering (not sure whether Greg Tannel will bush Howa boltface - need to check with him). No chrono data yet - wind was blowing too hard to keep sky screens upright last weekend.

ETA - Temps last weekend were in the high 60s. Am hoping to have warm enough temperatures here this weekend to figure out how temp sensitive IMR4350 is compared to the new Enduron 4451. We had a crazy un-seasonable day of 81*F a couple of weeks ago (right before the last snowstorm), and I was able to chrono some 4451 loads in one of my 6.5x47s along with some IMR 4007SSC ammo. Had chrono data on both these loads from a 45*F day - 4451 velocity was identical, while 4007 was nearly 50fps faster with the 36* temperature increase.

7828SSC works real good in my 6XC My load is 41.7 in Norma brass, CCI BR-2 and 105 Berger Hybrid 3100 fps. Don't start higher than 39 gr. and then work up

Can any of you fine gentlemen tell me what your loaded neck diameter is? Is that with Norma brass?

Thanks

Dan

I load to .267". But I have a .269 chamber and have to turn (Lapua brass).

Thanks guys. Don't want to hijack this thread. I was just wondering if the current run of Norma brass was going to need turned with my .273 necked reamer.

Where's a good start point for RL17 powder under a 105 VLD? I haven't even begun to look up load data yet for the XC.

Dan

H4350 is the ticket in my 6xc with the 87 Vmax and the 105 A-max. I run 42.0 with the 87's and 39.5 with the 105's. I never tried anything else because it just plain shoots.

TUBB BRASS
38.0 gr H4350
RUNNING 105 HYBRID .020 OFF LANDS.

REAMER HAS .098 FREEBORE

This same load works in 3 other XC's. 2 were hunting rifles and bumped them to 38.5gr H4350 and gained additional fps with just has good accuracy.
My benchgun 6XC with 38.0gr H4350 shot a .247 (If I remember right) @ 210 yds (4-shot group)

Hi Dan,

R17 is similar to Norma URP which I've had very good results with.
I would start with square marks at 39gr. I think you will find max at around 41,5.
My Norma brass measure .271 with 105 hybrid seated.

Best regards

Is anyone running RL17? I was going to try this over the H4350 because the 4350 seems like it can be very hard to get.

Dan

I am also building A 6XC. 700 action, 30" Muller barrel in 1-7.5 twist. Just trying to figure out loads for this length barrel. Anyone have an idea if H4350 or Reloader 17 would be to fast A powder for the 30" barrel length??
Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks John
