6 x 47L

I have a 6br 10tw barrel that I want to punch out to a bigger round. I was thinking about a 6 X 47L or a 6BRX. That is about all I can go to with out cutting the threads off and starting over.

This barrel would be for varmint hunting with 87 vmax to 95vld bullets. The Br will run the 87 vmax about 3000 f/s. I had a 6BRX 8 tw that would run 3250 f/s. I would think the 10 would run them a little faster.

Does anyone have a 6 X 47L 10 tw? All the searches here pull up 8 tw Barrels. Any info would be a help.

Mark, you may find that rechambering to the 6x47L is impossible without setting the barel back. I suspect,but am not sure) that the shoulder of the 6BR is larger than the 6x47 case at that same distance from the bolt face. If so, then you would have to set the barrel back some amount in order to avoid the 'double shoulder' which would make for a very interesting extraction problem!

Good point... when I had my 29.5' Lilja 3-groove 1-8' twist 6mm BR barrel from my 40X Prone Rifle rechambered to 6-6.5x47L and screwed on my Stiller TAC30 action as a varmint/tactical rifle with a brake, the barrel length got chopped down to 28'. Part of that was the front sight tenon getting lopped off and converted to part of the threads for the muzzle brake,at least an inch), and the rest came off the back end. All in all, the 'conversion' seems to have worked very well. I had about 600rds down the barrel as a 6mm BR, and about 300 or so down it now as a 6x47L, and it still shoots just stunningly.
