6 x 39 BR

New to this round and wondering if the "6 x 39 BR" is the same as the "6mmBR"?

The rifle listed at the following site lists the various calibers it is available in and I'm not sure if the two are the same.

George, in American terms, you're right; a 6x39 is not a 6BR - but I think the cartridge referenced on that page is in fact a 6BR (despite the improper designation) for a couple of reasons.

The webpage is for Bleiker rifles which definitely come in 6BR, and all the other cartridges listed are normal target cartridges. I suspect Bleiker, for whatever reason, didn't want to use the proper CIP terminology "6 mm Norma BR" maybe they don't like Norma! It would be impossible to sell a wildcat round in a factory rifle in Europe for legal and practical reasons as there is no reloading base to support a wildcat.

German, I went over th 6mmBR.com and looked again at the 6mmBR dimensions and found the following differences:

6x39 6mmBR
Length 1.528 1.559
Body 1.138 1.0749
Shoulder 45 degrees 36 degrees

Don't think it is the same.

Just suppostion here, but 6X39mm sounds like the 7.62X39mm M43 Russian simply necked down to 6mm which is similar to, but not identical to, 6PPC - which is 7.62X39mm necked down to .22 to give .220 Russian, then necked up again to 6mm and fireformed into a slightly different case-shape to become the PPC.

Lapua and other 7.62X39mm brass is widely available over here and is reasonably priced. This may be a simple / cheap expedient to get a small and accurate 6mm cartridge. There may or may not be feed issues too in this form as it's a magazine rifle. We know the 7.62X39mm feeds OK - as testified to by goodness knows how many AK47s!
