6 x 284

Just wondering anyone have one of these for varmint hunting I know it’s a barrel burner but I’m not worried about that I have 6.5 x 284 brass so it’s a easy neck down have dies also so just a matter of chambering a barrel so if anyone has one do you like it .

The 6-284 is one of my favs and one of the very first rifles I ever had custom built. Mine is built on a Rem 700 short action with a 12tw barrel. Pretty much all I've shot in mine is 75gr Vmax and they hammer the hell out of coyotes.

A friend of mine had a 6-284 built a few months ago and he smoked a speedgoat with it a couple weeks ago at nearly 700yds using 105 Berger's.

use a long action
Depends on the action what bottom metal you use and which bullet/s you intend to shoot.

SA Rem 700 with standard BDL hinged floor plate and Wyatts 3.00 mag box will easily handle everything except the really long 115's or 109/110 Hornady's and if you intend to shoot those same bottom metal but use Wyatts 3.100 "Baney" mag box.

If someone wanted to build one on a factory action and stay somewhat "budget" minded using a Tikka action would be your best option because depending on the bolt stop and bottom metal they're all the same length action.

I’d like to try one someday. I’d be slinging 80gr sierra blitz sp. gotta be total destruction and just a bad ass smoker. Dreaming

I've enjoyed Two! First was a sporter with 1x10 Douglas barrel. A grandson has it now. 4831 and a 95 partition on a short 700. The next was also on a 700 but with a heavy Hart barrel. I stuck with the larger bullets. Quite enjoyable in a prairie dog town. In this part of my life I don't care how fast they went, or still go when the Grandson shoots it. They went plenty fast enough. The 88 grain flat base Berger would make a jackrabbit four feet long and loosely held together by strings of hide when hit going away.
after a few shots the brass necks need turning. You will notice the expander ball hanging up a bit going into a fired case.

Ok thanks guys I have a 700 trued SA what twist will I need for the 88 Berger or 87 v max ? For coyotes I don’t think I need any heavier.

87 vmax works good and will work out of a short action. If you want to save pelts you wont like that 87 vmax. The 80gr berger HP works good for saving pelts.

A friend uses one on coyotes and rockchucks. Very effective. Just nasty.
