6 PPC Brass

I've just picked up a new 6 PPC rifle (Sako factory model) and am trying to get set up for loading for it. As far as I can tell, I have three choices in brass: (a) Lapua 220 Russian fire-formed to the chamber, (b) Norma 6 PPC, and (c) Sako 6 PPC. I can get all three quite easily. From all I've read, most shooters prefer the Lapua 220 Russian option, and so my question is just what makes it superior to the other two alternatives. It would seem preferable to be able to bypass the fire-forming operation by starting with already-formed 6 PPC brass--either Norma or Sako. I plan to turn the necks and weight-sort.

What have your experiences been with Norma and Sako 6 PPC brass?

IMO
It depends on what your planned use for the rifle is. Varminting and hunting I thing the Norma brass would be fine

You mention weight sorting and turning necks. If you plan to do this much prep for a factory rifle why stop there the fireforming process is pretty straight forward

Why did you post the same question TWICE at the same time - you should delete the other one.

Sorry about that. It was completely unintentional. On my screen I can see only the one posting, so perhaps a Mod removed the double-post.

Thanks, Tim. It sounds, from your reply, that you feel that the Lapua brass is better than the Norma. Is it stronger, longer-lasting? My experience with Lapua 222 brass (labeled 'Match') has shown quite a bit of weight variation from case to case. I started a thread about this a few days ago.

For a factory rifle (even though it is probably the most accurate factory rifle ever produced) I would go Norma as it is ready to go......no neck turning, no fireforming hastles. Lou Murdica, a renowned west coast BR competitor, who was responsible for Norma to begin production of the 6 PPC, has used it in competition and claims it to be equal to Lapua.
Sako brass will work only if you keep charges on the wimpy side....primer pockets tend to get huge fast.
