Sako 6mm PPC

Hello,

I just scored an unfired Sako single-shot 6mm PPC for next to nothing. It is beautifully made. Nice teeny action. Nice trigger. Does anyone have experience with the Sako 6mm PPC factory rifle and what kind of accuracy I can expect? Is it better to fireform 220 Russian brass or just use Norma factory brass? I'd like to behin load development with Nosler 55gr Ballistic Tips. Any pet loads? Thank You!

I had a 6PPC built by Fred Sinclair. I just put a normal powder charge in the case and a bullet slightly jammed. It shot small groups when FF. Tight neck I had to turn the necks first. Real simple.

I'll give you next to somethin for it.
Really~!!!!! Not too many people know anything about the gentleman who built mine, Jas. Hare who lived right here in St. Lucie County, Florida. I've known a few gunsmiths in my day, but Jas. went off to the happy hunting grounds quite a few years back. The rifles he built were incredibly accurate, and most of them were built for the DOD and police SWAT teams.

I have a sweet Sako 6PPC which I bought back around 1988. My rifle also favors the 62 grain bullets, specifically the Bergers. I never worked up loads with the 55 grain Ballistic Tips, though I did with the 58 V-Max for varmint duty. I was using Sako cases, 25.4 grains of H322, seated 2.105" OAL and Federal Match primers. that load shot just under 1/4 MOA in my rifle. If I were to do a load work-up with your 55 Ballistic Tips, I'd try this powder and Accurate LT32. I have used Sako, Norma and Lapua cases in that rifle, with none showing to be any superior to the other with the loads I used. While you don't need to turn necks with the Sako and Norma brass, you will want to with the Lapua .220 Russian necked up. While working up varmint loads with this rifle, I did find that the slow twist did not adequately stabilize lead-free bullets in the 55 grain weight - so be aware of that - just in case you opt to try those - as you will not want to buy a bunch of bullets without testing. Not sure if you want to alter the rifle at all, but a skim bedding job will enhance the accuracy a bit better than without.

The Berger bullet I use is a discontinued #24403 Berger 62 grain match bullet which was not intended for use in the 6PPC (as told to me by Walt Berger). There is very little bullet in the neck of the brass, but the accuracy in my rifle is as good as many much more expensive match rifles. If you can find any of those bullets on the forum, it would be worth picking them up. Ironically, my rifle also favored a powder that is not attainable any longer (the old "T" surplus powder). I never tried LT32 in it, even though I have it, as I still have "T" powder. LT32 will be the first powder to try when my "T" is depleted (unless I croak first). I haven't fired mine in many years as I no longer shoot the informal matches, nor can I use it for varmints in my lead-free State. Your rifle was a great find!
