6 ppc brass weight variation

Off work a couple days and just messin around. Been looking at my brass since there pretty much isn’t any new 220 to be found.
I weight sorted out 200 pieces that had the best feeling primer pockets and weighed them. The lightest was 108.92 and the heaviest was 110.46, I’ve never weighed brass before but 1.5 gr spread seemed like a lot but then idk,
I decided to load the 5 lightest and the 5 heaviest and shoot test them across my LabRadar
It was like 42 and drizzling rain.

Lt32 weighed to exactly 28.350 and Barts Avengers

The 5 heaviest clocked
3384
3374
3389
3386
3391
Avg 3384

The 5 lightest clocked
3394
3376
3386
3374
3389
Avg 3383

Both groups looked about the same and hit in the same place on target.
I think I can make do with that.

Thanks for putting this out. Just my opinion, there's not a significate difference. How did you shoot them? One group after another or round robin.

I will confess to sorting my brass when I start a new batch. My goal is to get rid of the heavies and lights to calm the voices in my head. I generally give the brass to a new shooter and have them run that test. They generally come back with similar data. The difference is within the SD of the two groups. The voices in my head still win and I keep sorting. I try and sort a case at a time and find that culling some light and heavies will give me 950 ish cases with a spread of 0.8 to 1.2 grains. It is easy and I know it has saved me a few 9s along the way.

I used to be very critical on case weight (with my good brass). I'm not so OCD on that anymore - but when I get a big batch of "less expensive" cases for varmint shooting and the cases weigh 5 grains apart on the spectrum, I can't help myself - I'll sort 1,000+ into three groups for reasons of uniform annealing more so than capacity worries.
