6 Grendel

22ARC is same case as 6.5 Grendel. The shoulder isn’t pushed back (shortened) like the 6ARC.

Question:
Is there any meaningful difference is necking up 22ARC or necking down 6.5 Grendel?

I prefer to neck down for the simple reason that I can size the case with a “false shoulder” to fit my chamber and fireform tight without any unnecessary stretching. If you neck up, you can’t set a tight fit and the shoulder is wherever it ended up when the case was made.

L E Wilson bushing B-269 (or whatever bushing you see fit)

I ordered a 6.5 seating die and have concerns if 6.5 seating stem would be a problem with 6mm bullet. Easy enough to fix but I wouldn’t think so.

You're likely to have issues with that. Without anything custom or hard to find...a 6ppc seater will work fine. Just back it off about .070ish.

I think the whole problem with proprietary BS all started with Alexander Arms copyright crap (TM?) with the 6.5 Grendel, which then spawned the LBC, CSS?, and other variants of the same danged thing with minute changes to throat/neck geometries…seems there was always someone that wanted to work with that case but was forced to change the name in order to avoid any infringement…. Before that time it seemed any modifications/improvement was fair game and now there was someone that wanted a piece of anything associated with the original case under the guise of ‘quality assurance’…complete BS.

I agree but will clarify that the only thing that Alexander ever protected was the name. He told me himself to do anything I wanted with it except use the term "Grendel". This was before the Beowolf(sp) or anything else he may've done. It's a good cartridge to play with and he never cared what was done with it, but it did lead to confusion regarding any proprietorship or protections. I think he has since dropped the copyright. Either way, I wouldn't let it stop me from wildcatting or playing with it, since that aspect was never protected in any way.

Good to know that, thank you. I had the discussion w/ LW (Woody Woodall, another can of worms), and play with that case I did. Everything from .20 cal on up. Still have a soft spot for that case today.
