6 Grendel with H4895

Hey all,

Does anyone have any data for the 6 Grendel running H4895 behind 107SMK? This will be for run in and inital load dev.

Chasing around 2820fps with the 107SMK in the end.

Thanks all.

I am using 26.6 gns under a 105 Hybrid. I am getting about 2730 with a 22 inch barrel.

I started getting some pretty good pressures above 27.5 Flat primers and ejector flow.

I'm shooting a 243LBC and these loads were safe in MY rifle so work up! these are 95gr SMK, Lapua brass and fed 205 primers velocity is from a 26" barrel, rifle is also a single shot so my COL is 2.320"

28.3 2888fps
28.6 2922fps
28.9 2962fps
29.2 2992fps
29.5 3025fps

The 29.5gr load showed pressure and the groups started to open up a bit, I just settled on 29.0gr as that 95 SMK just seems to float out there and the accuracy is more than good enough for me shooting steel plates, this is also a poly rifled barrel so it's a touch faster than my buddies cut rifled barrel about 70fps on the top end. My bolt rifle I get better groups with the 4895 and velocity but the AR likes 8208 and well it's slower as well but hitting a target accurately slow is a hell of a mess more fun than missing one fast lol

I do like AR Comp, but it is very hard to find where i live. I want a powder more temp sensitive, since the weather around hear in Louisiana has been crazy these days. I have been using CFE 223 lately.
H4895 is easy to get around me so i will do some load testing with it.

Sorry I should have been a bit more clear, 8208 in my AR rifle.... I've never messed with AR Comp with this round. I liked the round so much I put together an AR rifle :)

I spent several months working down there in Berwick, Morgan City area and ya know I don't bitch much about the humidity here in Oklahoma City these days lol I do miss catching those Reds though!

Do stick powders like H4895 or Varget not get enough powder in the case to maximize velocity?

I don't have a Grendel, but I am seriously considering it, and the only powder I stock slower than H335 are stick powders H4895 and IMR4064.

TAC has been one I would like to try as well, but CFE223 is widely available locally.

Ball powders seem to be more temp sensitive than stick powders.

I am very happy with H4895.

I've only fireformed 46 cases so far.

Shot my last 16 cases to form at 800m. 27gr H4895 with 107SMK at 7 Jump. Doing 2760fps, shot X ring elevation at 800m in horrible mirage. She wants to shoot for sure.

Getting more freebore put in it right now as the 60 the reamer came with isnt quite enough. She will have 150 after this cut. By my calcs should put base of bearing surface at the neck shoulder junction.

Quickoz, I know you didn't ask about the 6.5 Grendel but IMR 8208XBR shot the best out of mine with 123 grain bullets. The 85 grain bullets I used H335 and was real impressed with it also. I have a BHW Barrel 20" 3P rifling that is very impressive with 123 gr bullets on the AR. I have a Howa Mini that I really need to pillar and action bed but it shoots pretty good also.

CANT SPEAK FOR 107'S BUT H-335 AND 90HP'S SURE DOES A FINE JOB IN MY LITTLE HOWA MINI AT 2850 FPS FOR ME AND NICE GROUPS

You would be better chasing 2750 FPS with a 107 your bolt will thank you if this is an AR?. H4895 is a good powder. 8208 is better in my experience
