6 Dasher with N135 or N140

I’ve been running RL-15 forever in our dashers and this winter I want to do some testing with a new barrel I have and try N135 and N140 (both of which I’ve had for well over 3 years and never cracked the seal on either keg).
I’m currently running 33.1g of RL-15 in Lapua 6BR fireformed to dasher brass, and shooting the Barts 105 Gungnirs, with this setup I’m getting 3070fps (at 55deg F).
I’m looking for a good starting point with the N135 so that I can find a 1.4gr window for ladder testing.
And for those that shoot 6 Dashers with N140, I’m looking for the same powder testing window.
I don’t want to start too low and unfortunately I don’t run QL (I don’t even own a computer….lol).

Thanks for any input you guys can offer. I seriously can’t imagine anything outshooting the current combo with RL-15, but I’ve been told Viht powders can do magical things.

Thanks guys,
Dave M.

Thanks. I’ve heard of guys running both with great success. I’m hoping to hear from some guys that run these combos as their favorite pet load.

32.0 is my current load in dasher with N135 and Sierra 107. About 2975fps .120 freebore.
33.0 N140 was a little too hot for my rifle, about at 3000.
N135 shot smaller groups of the two VV powders
I could not get to 3050 without messing up brass like so many say is “easy” with a dasher. 2950-75 seems a good node for my 30” barrel with Lapua brass.

Starting window range for N135 and N140 using Barts 105 gungnirs, CCI450 primer, Lapua 6BR brass hydro formed to 6 dasher.
Currently running 33.1gr RL-15 and hitting 3050-3070fps consistently.
I want to test N135 and N140 in my new barrel but looking for a good powder charge weight test window for the two Viht powders. I don’t want to start too low and waste powder, but of course I don’t want to start too high and immediately hit over pressure signs .

Thanks for your help guys,
Dave M

Dave,
I posted some of my date on this thread, maybe it will help?

This data is amazing and literally more than I could have ever hoped for. I had my windows set up for RL-15 (easy because I’ve used it in dashers forever, and N140 (similar window to RL-15 but just starting lower), and after reading your test data I decided to move my entire charge weight window down a full grain on the N135. I was originally planning to start the 135 testing at 31.2, but now I’m starting at 30.2gr based on your data. Thanks again, I always try to start quite low and work up but often times this means two trips to the range because my window was set too low. In this case, it would have been the opposite and I would have likely pressured out before getting anywhere near the top of my window. Thanks for saving me that hassle.

Thanks brother,
Dave

Yep

On the text data where I was a bit frisky with powder, I mistakenly looked at my Lapua brass data and that trip I was running Alpha in a different rifle. It big me, that data is valuable, but ended up running to the range again. :)

Edit
What I intended to write is
On the data sheets above, I was a bit frisky with the powder. I mistakenly looked at my Lapua data when I was loading Alpha brass (different rifle). The data is still good, it just cost me another trip to the range.

I was outside loading the truck and moving critters……. And trying to share info with my “smart phone”…… I know better!
I apologize for the above jibberish.

I also used RE-15, as well as Norma 203B in my Dasher for years. During the powder absence, I managed to pickup some N-140, it performed beautifully, extremely accurate, low SD’s, with Berger 105 and 108 BT’s. Although I have some of the other powders now, I am going to stay with N-140. It seemed to perform on par with Varget as far as velocity and charge weights.

I also ran 203B with surprisingly great results. Varget was ok but the very next 1LB bottle was 30fps faster. R15 is my go to but it burns dirty as shit. Testing N140 and N135 next Saturday, already loaded the rounds.
