6 dasher questions

I am getting ready to build a 6 dasher. This gun will be used for long range tactical matches. For this build I will be using a ga precision tempest action sitting in a manners t2-a stock. I plan on shooting the Berger 105 hybrids and hornady 105 amax. Now for the questions:
Bartlein or krieger?
Twist - 1:7.5 or 1:8?
.236 or .237 bore?
4 groove or 5r?
Should I use lapua 6br brass and fire form or use Norma 6 dasher brass?
Any and all help will greatly be appreciated
Thank you, Riley

Hybrids are better with the 7.5. I like the Lapua brass better. I had luck with 4 groove Krieger and Broughton 5c. I don't think size matters but you may get a little more speed with a .237. Need minimum .135 freebore. Matt

.237 or .236 is fine
1-8" (unless you want to shoot 115s)
4 groove all the way
Lapua brass.

Get an 8lber of varget or H4895 and rock on.

Adam

Thanks guys. Keep them coming!! Also, what do you think on barrel length? 26", 28" or 30". It will most likely be a m24 or heavy varmint contour barrel.

28 seems to balance OK and still leave room for a rechamber. It will get you the velocity the case is capable of even after a cutoff and rechamber. Matt

Personally I like the killer "b,s" for barrels (Bartlein or Brux) in .236 bore and 4-grooves for the Dasher. I have had good luck with a 8.25 to 7.75 gain twist Bartlein and an 8-twist Brux. Good shooting....James Mock PS- I prefer a 28 inch length.

1:8 for all 105's. 28-30in. RL17. Berger's for competition, Amax's for sight in/fouling.

If you're shooting long range tactical (ie PRS) style matches, then 28" is a bit unwieldy for length. M24 is also a bit of a truck axle for these style of matches, heavy varmint is even bigger.

My 6 Dasher PRS competition gun is being built with 26" barrel in a lighter Rem Varmint/Sendero profile. Hawk Hill, 8 twist for 105 hybrids.

both Bartlien or Krieger are very good barrels. I have both. Norma brass is easy but do not load as hot as Lapua, will shoot good at lower node. I like 28" for F-class. 1-8 twist for 105 VLD's, 1-7.5 could be better for 105 Hybrids.

I'll throw in my .02 cents. The new Norma brass has a couple advantages. No fire forming and the long neck for versitility. Run .140-.150" FB and everything from 105-115gr is going to fit in the case above the shoulder/neck. Also you won't feel as bad when you loose a case or two in PRS. In PRS any advantage Lapua brass migh have is mute. This ain't 1K benchrest.

Bartlein or Krieger, flip a coin. The same goes for a handfull of other makers.

.236"/.237", like Matt said .237" might get you a few more fps. Since you've gotta pick one, I'd go that way.

4 grove or 5R? Both shoot great. 5R's seem to clean a little easier and some times foul slightly less. 4G might be slightly more accurate, but again this ain't 1K benchrest. A half inch larger 10 shot group at 1K won't buy you anything in PRS. Either way, no wrong choice. Personally I'd go 5R for easier maintainence.

7.5" twist. It won't hurt anything and keeps the door open for any bullets that need it. If anything it will help the BC of everything. Why you would go 8" and loose out on possibly being able to shoot a bullet you might otherwise really like makes no sence to me.

Rem Varmint/Sendero countour at 26". You've gotta be able to move this thing around in PRS. Depending on the stock and optics this will build you a 12.5-14lb rifle. If you happen to be 6'5" and 275 lbs of muscle then go heavier..
