6 Dasher Problems - Help Please>> UPDATE

I think you better check the shank size and the pressure ring of the bullets first. All the barrels i use are .236 bore now and last year with the lot of 105 H Bergers shot well and the new lot this year will not shoot out of the same barrels, it's the luck of the draw. They shot the best in .010 last year and they just shot OK jumped. I Juenked last years and the bad ones were 5 divisions and the new ones you are hard pressed to get 5 divisions for the good ones. I tried these in a couple new barrels and can't get them to shoot small as i need. ...... jim

Never having seen - much less used - a Juenke device, can you expand on the effect of more vs. fewer 'divisions' as it relates to bullet diameter?

I believe I know a Juenke device is used to get an idea of how well a bullet may be balanced / whether the jacket and core are symmetrical, but that's it.

Since beginning with Berger's products a few years ago I've found them to be consistent enough (at least for my "sling and aperture" shooting) between lots. If accellerated production of the past few months is causing them to be less consistent, it's reason for concern.

I think the Berger will work for you then, you are only looking for 1/4 - 1/2 min. accuracy with X corse shooting. In BR. i look for sub .2 @ 1K .... So i would say you are good to go and the last lot were also from last year. I have seen some real fat Berger 105H though, mic them shank and pressure ring...... jim

How does a rifle shoot TINY dots with 3 or 4 shots and end up with groups, including flyers, at or slightly above 1.5"!!

There are many possible factors, at 300 yards, wind being paramount. However I had one rifle that would split groups even at 100 yards, with typically two in one hole and two or three in another hole about .5-.7" away.

We tried everything -- different bullets, different seating depths, different loads, different rests and bags, different scopes, different stock-holding techniques, different action screw settings.

The solution was a completely new stock. Same action and barrel, with original load and seating depth, now prints reliable, repeatable tight round groups without "fliers" at 100 yards.

The original stock was flexing unpredicatably right in front of the action. It also had geometry problems that caused the gun to run crooked as it recoiled.

Difference with the new stock was like night and day. Last 100-yard group with old stock was 1.1". First 100-yard group with new stock was about 0.19 with four of five shots in a zero spread.

I'm not saying you need to replace your stock -- it is probably fine. I'm just pointing out that sometimes accuracy issues can be hardware-induced rather than a load issue.

First i would make sure everything is tight, then change scopes and last would be bedding. sometimes it's bad habits.... I just had one come completely un glued and it still shot sub 4" groups at 1 K. Pillars and re glued it shot a agg. of 2.88 for 4 LG.matches @1K. Moral of the story check your equipment,first....... jim

Believe me, I appreciate all the help guys... But I simply changed to the 105 V.L.D.s and the gun shoots extremely well now>>>surprising in fact!! I believe the problem with the Hybrids (the ones I had) was actually 3 fold. 1.) not enough freebore; 2.) not enough freebore IN CONJUNCTION with a tight bore and 3.) slightly "fatter" bullets.. In either event, it now shoots , with those VLD's, beyond my expectations! I am quite a happy camper now!! Thanks again!

Ben, what did your bullets measure?

No I do not>>>BUT it "flashes" to the 1/2 thousandths...That's why I said that it is only a close call as to what it is using my calipers..

A good 1" micrometer that reads down to .0001" is almost a necessity to make worthwhile measurements.

Wen't thru SOME of this thread, here's one I found out the hard way- BR-4'S, 450's to hot for me without having to back off 1-1.5 grns from 33.5 of Varget
