6 Dasher Newbie!

Hi Everyone. Looking to do my first dasher in the fall. Looking to use lapua brass, no turn neck and 105-109s. looking for simple fireforming loads and what size bushing to order. thank you from cabin fever burning bored 308 ftr shooter!

Jam a 107smk, 105 Berger of whatever flavor, 108 eldm, whatever you’ve got laying around in the 105 range about 0.020 straight out of the box with no prep. 30 grains of SWP, varget, RL15, or whatever you’ve got laying around in that burn rate. 205m primers just because of them being soft. .266 and .267 bushing after they’re fireformed.

Or skip it and get alpha brass, .267 and .268 bushing.

I use a spare action with a replaceable bolt head for fireforming just to guarantee I won’t gall my lugs. Grease the lugs well on the backside, regardless.

As for HOW to FF, I am in the "other" camp. I use the false shoulder method, and when I load the bullets, I ALSO jam them. My FF load is 31G Varget with the old style Berger 105 BT. (WORK UP TO IT) I don't know how else to put it other than ALL of the BBLs that I FFed for shot AMAZING!!! If it weren't for the very snug fit of the brass and jam in the chamber (hard to close the bolt) and the resulting upsetting of the gun in the bags I would not hesitate to shoot it in a match. Also there is the possibility of a split in the neck/sholder which causes much lower FPS and low misses. This IS NOT a fault of the FFing....it is simply a defect in the brass. Less than 1 in 100.

Now, there is more to FFing than to get the gun to go BANG and turn BR brass int DASHER brass. To me, anyway, the QUALITY and UNIFORMITY of the end product is huge.

Of course..that is MY opinion.;) It is worth what you paid for it.

If it were me, I would try the new Alpha Dasher brass and just shoot 'em!
