6 Dasher Fire Forming w/o Bullets?

I have been lead to believe that it is possible to fire form 6 Dasher brass in your bench rifle using wax plugs instead of bullets.
I have also heard of shooters using Cisco and Cream of Wheat?
Is this really possible?
If so, How does this method keep the base of the brass against the bolt when there is no bullet up against the lands?
I am looking for facts not theory, anyone who has used this method with good results, please comment.
Thanks in advance

Yes, it's really possible.

I expanded/neck down false shouldered NEW 6br brass using 14.5 grains of Titegroup and cream of wheat (2 1/2 minute cook time - I think that it matters) to the top with half of a 1" patch folded in half. I went this route because I could fireform first and then turn exactly to the shoulder. Shoulders are not perfect but 32 grains of Varget + 105 VLD on second firing yielded good results.

Wonder why the powder is not getting wet from the wet, cooked cream of wheat?

Gotta be a mess when it shoots. Glad it works.

Pretty sure the "2 1/2 Minute" is the specific type of COW. ;)

Best thing is to get a Chamber cut in a old barrel make it the same as a shot gun shell and use a spent 22 case .
Aim it straight up in a shot gun .

Most times I can decipher your point/thoughts. I can't on this one. I'm always looking for ways to improve my fire forming (in the process of doing 500 right now). Please explain how I can use a spent 22 case to fire form dasher brass? Thanks

Rich

Turn a piece of steel into a duplication of a shotgun shell after you do that you chamber for a 6 dasher .

You will find a spent 22 case is slightl smaller Then a 6 mm bore .
Insert the chambers steel shot gun case along with a charged 6mm case into shot gun keeping the barrel straight up the spent 22 case works the same as wax it weight is enough for the pressure resistance to blow the shoulders .
Instead of using wax or clay use a spent 22 casing .
Your rifle works fine but the shotgun shell works better . Larry

I have done BRX and another improved 6BR case using the COW method (about 900 cases). I use @ 9-10 grains of Titewad, fill to bottom of neck with COW, and stuff a wad of TP in the neck. The shoulder area will not have perfectly sharp edges, but it blows the shoulder forward to where you will know how far down you need to turn necks. I can do a full charge load on the next firing and be competitive. I bring an air compressor to the range and blow out the chamber/barrel about every 25 rounds. It is a fast way of doing fire forming, since the barrel doesn't heat up like it would with a full charge load. You get to feed all the mice and small birds on the range as well...

I tried fireforming with bullets early on this year for a wildcat 7mm using 308 cases. Shoulder moved 3.5mm forward w/neck sized to 7mm.

Didn't work nearly as well as a modified COW method: 16 grains Bullseye, then toilet paper compressed on top, enough loose corn meal to fill to neck mouth then tamped, followed by more toilet paper tamped to keep everything in place. First 3mm of necks need sizing to 7mm then the remaining 308 neck serves as a false shoulder.

Nothing's wet or pre-cooked either....
