6 Dasher Die Bushing Size?

Have a 272 neck PTG reamer on the way for my new 6 Dasher.

What bushing size do you go with in your Redding Type S Full Length Die - 269, 268, 267?

Have you experimented with other sizes to dial in neck tension?

I'm not remotely qualified or expert enough to recommend anything but do have recent experience. Had Forster make me a sizing die in .2655".

Using the new Lapua .012" brass,I seated a few bullets in newly fireformed Dasher cases today. Measured the expander button and left it in the die. That button was .242. Did some figuring and with the .2655 I was only getting .0015" tension without the button and .001" with it, not measuring springback.

Necked a case and felt little pressure by the button. The bullet seated fine and holds tight. Don't know why you would want more tension but do know you would not want less.

With your case neck thickness, will you "squeeze" it enough to even hold the bullet at those larger neck-sizing sizes?

With the older cardboard boxed brass, and a .272 reamer, I generally use a .267 bushing.

I'd seat a few bullets in your brass, measure the loaded rounds, subtract .003", and get that size bushing, plus one on each side of it.

It will be determined by the bullets and the brass thickness you have. I have the older cardboard box Lapua brass, that measures about 0.269" loaded. So I go with a Forster 0.267 bushing and it works fine. Gives me about 0.001" fit. If you have the newer 0.012" thick brass, I expect you will need a 0.265" bushing.

One other issue however is that I understand the Redding bushings often do not measure what they are stamped as.

get a wilson bushing...

they are what they are.....sorta like Popeye.....the Redding are notorious for being mis-marked....if you hav one that works then it wears good and sizes good...but they are usually one or two thousands tighter than marked....and the wilson bushings are tapered so if you invert them you get an xtra 1/2 thou. sizing if needed....OBTW,,,a .265" wilson ((or a .267 Redding)) shuld be perfect.....Roger

I am not knocking Redding ...just stating what has been found to be in my experience....I highly reccomend their type S dies and use the full length type S for all of my precision ammo....dont know what has been going on with their bushings..???!!!.....

Hello roger,I see you are reading alot, havent seen you around lately.LOL I hope you will have a nice Christmas this year. Still loving the xp100! By the way I am using a .267 bushing and it works for me. I have the new brass but I am still shooting the brass that came with a gun I bought off expiper. One shooting stick.
