6 Dasher at 1K

I shoot 105 Amax at all ranges. I'm wondering if the 107 Sierra might shoot a little better at 1K. I know it's a try it and see deal, but just need to get opinions from shooters that have tried them. Thanks Barlow

Personally, I think the Berger Hybrid is amazing out of ANY 6mm cartridge. High B.C., easy to tune, relatively inexpensive and SUPER accurate! There are a few that rival it! BUT very few! I don't believe ANY of them actually surpass the Berger Hybrid.

I've shot both the 105A-Max and the 107SMK from a 6mmBR and both can do very well at 1000 yards. But I had to sort the bullets differently to get the best results with each. A-Max bullets generally have more uniform BCs than hollow point bullets like the 107SMK because the overall length of the A-Max is typically more uniform than a hollow point such as the SMK. I sorted both types by bearing surface length but it is also worth sorting the SMKs into groups by over-all length or trim the meplats and point them to further uniform the BCs which is not necessary with the A-Max.

Thanks for great responses. I have found the 105 Amax to be extremely consistent in base to ogive length, (at least so far). I do not measure them, except when seated. I use a Forster mic seater and may have to adjust the length on 5 or 6 out of a 100. Maybe those few rounds should be sorted, but I have been including them in my match box. I didn't think .002-.003 difference in bullet bto would make much difference, but maybe it does. I did notice when I chronographed a few rounds the other day I had one round that was enough slower 3044, compared to the rest (total of 6) that were 3067-3077 that would probably show up at 1K. Maybe I should clean up that part of my loading process. Input welcome. Thanks, Barlow

I just shot MY smallest 1K group ever using the 105 AMAX. 3.6" 5-shot group.

If they work, don't change anything.

There's only one reason to consider changing bullets if you're happy with the amax... go read the daily bulletin about the 'stuff' that Hornady is suspending production on... 105gr Amax is one of them.

I may not be understanding you correctly. But if your saying you don't measure the Amax until after seated. This will not show you the variance in the bullet base to ogive. You have to measure the bullets themselves. The variance ends up down inside the loaded round. It sounds like what you are checking is how consistent your seater die is seating the bullets

Tsingleton, I have not been measuring the bullets bto separately because they have been so consistent, I did not think it worthwhile. I would adjust seating depth with my Forster mic seater if I got an occasional long or short (rare) round. My seating depth is 2.815 with the comparator nut. If a round mic's 2.817, I seat it .002 deeper and return the mic head back to the old setting. I'm not sure if that difference shows up on target, but it may. Barlow
