The thought was to do a couple barrels for F Open and just range plinking. I think my body is a little too worn out for PRS.

I shoot a 272 no turn with .140” free bore. For F Class. It’s a nice place to be. I do shoot a lot of 109 Berger’s and if anything .150-.175 would be optional for those.

A few yrs ago I went to a match just to watch and a couple gentlemen let me get behind their guns after the match was complete. Needless to say, the hook was set hard. After alot of research I dug in on the BRX and started buying stuff. I have my stock after 18 months of waiting. Barrels took 6 months, action was only a few months. Found a bunch of lapua 6br brass that I snatched up, powder, primers. Now the difficult part is figuring out the reamer specs, because I am not very familiar with what effects what. Then after talking to a few gunsmiths about doing barrel work and bedding, it seems nobody wants to work on it because I bought my own components and not from them. I was thinking of just starting with basic no neck turn brass. What says the crowd? Should I just scrap this idea?

I'll add this, I work 80 hrs a week the last couple years so it has been difficult to stay focused on getting this done.

Those guys just want to mark things up for even more profit. It is rare when they will sell those things for less than you can buy them for. Been there before and walked away from those types. Try pricing everything with their prices and compare before saying anything about what you already have, it can be eye opening.

One of my 6br's needed a new barrel and I had somehow managed to accumulate everything for a 6brx, including dies and a reamer, so my smith twisted my arm and now I have a brx. Ive only just zeroed it and fire formed 100 pieces, need to get to work on load development soon.

So what is the velocity range? 6bra or colser to a dasher or higher? 105 class bullets. Is there a certain reamer design for the 6brx thats makes it better than a standard reamer? Thanks.

I guess the 6 BrX is now the red headed step child compared to the Dasher. I first learned about the BrX in 2012, funny I was tolled about it from someone shooting a Dasher. I got my first BrX barrel in 2013 I’m on my 3rd one now. I know 2 other people that shoot the BrX, I know many that shoot Dashers. When some ask what shoot and I say a 6 BrX then they ask “What Is that” I normally say “ it’s kinda like the Dasher without the sexy name. I don’t see the BrX getting anymore popular wail the Dasher gets more popular every day. Factory brass for the Dasher is coming about I don’t see factory BrX brass ever happening. Ballistically theirs very little different and I can’t shoot the differences. I think the biggest difference is the flashing name. I think the BrX will ride off into the sunset simply because it didn’t get the right name.

I have a 6BRX 14 twist for GH hunting. Nothing not to like about it. Lapua cases, very accurate, flat shooting. Just shoot a 6BR case in the chamber to FF. Good case life.

The capacity/powder load is the same or at least close to the Dasher. The only real downside is that you have to fireform your brass . If you are palnning to shoot long pills - there's plenty of advice in this thread as to freebore length. My reamer came from Manson a while ago an was simply what they offered as suitable for 105/107g bullets- but pre dates many bullets that are now available. I use 107SMK is all my 6mm's

A BRX will push 105's in a long barrel in the 2950-3030 range. Some barrels a little higher. I shoot 109 Bergers in the 2960-2980 range depending on the individual barrel.

Reamers w .104" free bore were the standard for years. But for 105's on up IMO .140"-.150 is a better choice. A steady diet of 109's could use .180"-.190". But .140" still works well enough with them I never bothered to change.

The BRX neck is shorter but 30 degrees vs the Dasher is 40.

My current 6BR barrel still has plenty of life on it hopefully. Probably at least thousand to 1500 rounds before it probably gives up the ghost. I just like to shoot steel as far as I can and the occasional local PRS type match. So the 6br has been just fine for me but it’s always fun to try something new. So I thought about going the 6BRX or BRA route cause why not. I have 300 new pieces of Lapua 6BR brass I have been saving for my next barrel. Figured either if I stay with a straight BR or go to one of its brothers, I could just fire form. And I’ve read that with the 6BRX as opposed to the BRA you can still use the same dies. So I’m kind of leaning that way, not that that should be the sole deciding factor. Easy to sell the old dies and just get new ones.

Another dark horse in this mix which peaked my interest was the 6BRDX. One of my local shops has a newish Whidden die set they’ve had in their inventory forever for that cartridge. But you just don’t see people offering barrels chambered in that readily available much at all or even reamers.
