6 br recoil question

Am looking at getting a T.C Encore bbl in 6BR but wonder about the recoil. Have shot a lighter TC Contender in .223 and do not want much more recoil than that for bench work. With the heavier and longer bbl Encore, shooting moderate velocity but accurate loads and using 70 gr. or so bullets would the recoil be comparable? Would the 6br be comparable to another handgun cartridge such a 44 special/ 38 special or are we getting into the .357 mag level in terms of recoil?
May be that the heavy Encore would make a 6 BR seem like a 44 special in a lighter handgun? Even some rifle comparisons might be usefull--i.e., 6 BR with 60 - 90 gr. bullets has considerale/moderate/etc. more recoil compared to .223 with its 55 to 60 grain bullets? Any other thoughts/suggestons regarding a TC in 6BR--pros and cons, problems, etc.?

Just joined--long time reader and have really enjoyed the posts and articles

thanks for any help

Yes--am talking about a pistol. Weight would be about 4 1/2 pounds with 15" bbl. plus 1/2 lb or so with scope mount and rings. And thanks for the rifle comparison--gives me an idea at least

You can get a quick comparison with this calculator:

Tony, I would think that you would need a muzzle break on the 6 BR pistol, at least I would.

Years ago, I shot the XP's in 221 FB on p. dogs and the recoil seemed too much for me.

Tony,
I have an XP-100 in 6BR and it has a little muzzle flip but not unmanageable. You could easily shoot it for hours without fatigue. I do think that it could benefit from a muzzle brake, I have brakes on a couple guns and they are easy to shoot. As far as comparing it to a handgun load I'd say it is like a 125gr in a .38 with a light load or a standard 9mm parabellum.
