6-6.5x47 Barrel life for varminting

Considering next chambering for varminting and wanted to consider the 6x47 Lapua. I primarily shoot ground squirrels, from 100-300) yards and 6BR has proved king for me so far, excellent barrel life, accuracy and ballistics). But I like the idea of gaining a couple hundred of FPS over the 6BR, so long as my barrel wont completly burn out after 1500 rounds, like a .243 AI). I have found that with a couple re-crownings mixed in, I can expect 5K-6K of accurate shooting from a 6BR,55s at 3,750 - 3,825 fps). Can anybody speak to the barrel live of the 6-6.5x47 for this kind of use?

Thus far I've been very kind to my 6x47L. so as not to wear it out right away. Based on my previous experience with a .243 Win. that burned out in 1700 rounds, I,m not expecting much better from my 6x47 Lapua. Using 105 grain bullets, an optimum powder charge of H4350 is nearly identical. You do the math!

Yeah, I guess I was hoping to get something for nothing. My .243 Win only gave me 1500,and that was 'varmint' accuracy). For rats, think I'll have to stick with 6BR for now. Thanks.

RAG, I have a nut-less Savage Target Action with a 28' 8tw Bartlein which will one hole Berger 88 FB Varmint/Match Grade bullets in fact it shoots the 88's tighter then 95's or 105's. But this is the only varmint bullet it shoots extremely well, it doesn't much like 87Vmax's or 105Amax's and being it's a 8tw lighter bullets groups are a little loose. So if your building this for a dedicated G-squirrel rig better think about a very short throated 12tw. It's to early for me to comment on barrel life. My 6x47l is hell on P-dogs at 500yd but the 88's punch right through, it leaves em DRT but no splatter factor.

RJ

Wow, I "found" my old thread on this subject (I forgot about it entirely) while again contemplating a 6-6.5x47 again.

This may sound nuts to all, but I have a 243 that is still shooting good for varmints with 3500 rounds through it. (still hitting good at 600 yds. +) it is a Hart barrel that I have only shot molly coated 70 gr. Blitz King with H-380 ball powder only. The bore scope shows substantial ware but it still shoots. I think the Molly and using Ball powder is why. :)
