6-6.5 Grendel

I was wondering if any of you out there chamber for the 6-6.5 Grendel?
Is it throated for the heavier bullets?
105-108 Berger and Sierra bullets to loaded at magazine length.
I use .070" freebore in a 6 Grendel set up for 80 gr fb bullets. If you compare the bearing surface lengths of a Berger 80 and a Berger 105, they're very similar and I've seated 105's just to see where they come to in relation to the neck shoulder junction, with the top of the bt being just above the neck shoulder junction. I'd prefer it to be just a tad further away. I think .100 fb would be very near ideal. JMHO.

That said, I throated mine with .070 to be able to shoot 65-80 gr bullets. For that, it works well and at the same time would be very workable for the 105 class of bullets. If I were you, I'd get a few different bullets and compare bearing surface lengths...or just call your favorite reamer maker and get their thoughts for your specific needs. They are very likely to know what will work best, as it has surely been done numerous times.

6mmAR, 6mm Turbo, 6mmRat, 6mm FatRat are all 6.5 Grendels necked down to 6mm popularly used in an AR15 for NRA across-the-course competition. Just minor variations in shoulder angle and neck length. Robert Whitley and Lee Wells offer chambered barrels and uppers

Yes, 6-6.5, 6mm ar, .243 LBC are basically the same. I just wanted some concrete info before I had reamer made. I actually found some 6mm bullets and necked a 6.5 Grendel case to make a dummy round for reamer manufacturer. Was wondering about compatability of head space gauges... I’m getting there. Thanks for the replies.

You'll be better off going with 90-95 grain assuming it's in an AR platform. I can't help with reamer specs. Some of the Colorado boys are running them. With a longer barrel, 22-24" you should get around 2800fps.

That’s gonna be real close to a ppc
In fact, a 6 Grendel is a .070" long PPC that doesn't require fireforming...just neck it down and turn, load and shoot. Works great and Lapua brass is excellent. Small primers, small flash holes and very good brass, overall. Capacity is pretty well right between a ppc and a br case. Forget about load data and load it like you would a ppc, in a good bolt rifle. I If shooting the light bullets, try loading to ppc pressures. You should have better speed, great accuracy and you'll forget what you did with that long drop tube.

I shoot 80's at 3,300fps with room for a tad more speed before brass life gets short. I've loaded them to 3,400 but is borderline in my rifle. It's winning matches.

I feel that the case is well suited for the 80's. I've read where Ferris Pindell was playing with 81 grain bullets in a ppc before he quit. His words were that it seemed like cheating. I will say that I agree with that statement. After shooting it for all of this season, I'm not sure it gives up anything to the ppc at 100 and feel strongly that it is better at 200 with the 80's. That's where the "feels like cheating" shows up for the most part. It just seems to defy the wind better. I'm sure that the better bc at comparable speeds and the availability of good quality mid weight bullets is the biggest reason why this is so, but the case is very, very good.

Berger 95gr VLD work well with the .070" freebore.
