6.5x55 Modern Loads for 1,000 yd

hi guys,
I have a 6.5x55 with a 30" Krieger 1-8" on a RPA Quadlock action in a McMillan prone stock i shoot for long range ( NRA style with iron sights) and have been using the 123 Lapua, 140 Berger Hybrids, and the 142 SMK's with great success. IMR 4350 or Hodgdons, Varget powders.

I am interested in trying some of the higher BC bullets from Hornady or the RDF bullets they have.
What experience do y'all have on this caliber with longer, heavier bullets?

I shoot the 142 and 150 smk 50-52 gr of h4831. The 142 will go about 3060 fps and the 150 just over 3000 with a 30" barrel, 1 in 8 twist.

My brother is using N560 in an old Swede action with a 30" Shilen and getting 2907fps with Hornady 147s. I don't know his exact load but he is well within spec for his military action. The N560 is giving some incredible velocities and accuracy.

Varget to me is a No Go ....
I am on my 2nd Barrel of a 1000 yard Prone Rifle.
Barnard Action 32” Krieger ( Boots R5)
H4831sc , CCIBR2 142 Sierra or 140 Burger HB.
I keep them at 2900 to 2930 (Barrel Life)
You can get 2980 + if you get a discount on. Barrels.
I use Winchester Brass do to smaller head DIA.
It works in Barnards with out opening the Bolt Face.

Listen to Don. Use enough H4831SC to get to 2900 FPS with a BR2 primer, with a 142 Sierra or the 140 Berger Hybrid, and you're golden. I used 6.5x55 Lapua brass was the only difference.

I have had good accuracy and velocity using the 140 RDF and RE16. 2950 fps, around 46 grains of Re16, CCI 200 and Lapua brass. Slightly less than 2" at 600 and I am not to be mistaken for a "shooter".

2100 to 2300 .
I was still getting good grouping out of my last barrel , the problem was the Throat was so long ,my bullets where .065 in the case neck.

I fireform 6.5 x55 SE to BJAI using a 142 SMK and 48gr of RL-23 for good enough precision to get an occasional clean at 600yds in F-open shooting (and most points lost by the shooter for sure). This will push a 142 SMK or a Precision Ballistics 142 at 2960-2970 fps in the native case in the BJAI chamber (which is just over 4gr H2O increased capacity). I have three barrels in rotation and the first has 1600rds and still shoots very low vertical at 600 and is definitely competitive but the throat has moved out about 0.060". I have used H4831sc for about 1/2 of the rounds in that first barrel and it seemed more erosive on the throat than RL-23 but I was using 50.4gr of H4831sc to get to the 2940-50 fps sweet spot with that powder.

I have a 6.5X55 with a 40 degree shoulder. I get significantly higher velocity with Norma MRP (136scenar & 140hy) over other powders that I've tried. No pressure signs at over 3100 fps. If you have QL give it a go and see what you come up with for a straight 6.5X55. I think that barrel life will be good with this "slow" powder.
