6.5x55 at 1000 yds

I load for a CG-63 (96 Mauser converted to an FSR target rifle in the '60's), using Sierra 123 HPBT's, 49.6 gr of RE-19, a Lapua case, and a Fed 210M primer. The throat on this rifle is deeper than LL's, and the 1 in 7.87 twist 29" barrel has a bad spot about 1/3 of the way back from the muzzle.

I don't know what the muzzle velocity is, but it is right in the low 2500 fps, at the 200 yard mark. This load has a SD of 5.31, according to the SMT target software. It is grouping slightly under MOA @200 yds (1.98 in.).

The primers still look good, bolt lift is normal. For a prone rifle, the recoil is negligible. As a silhouette rifle it is next to nothing.

The original rear diopter sights were designed for the Norma 139 FMJBT, travelling at around 2850 fps. My sight setting is slightly lower, sitting in between the 1.75 & 2 marks on the elevation dial.

For a gun born in 1899, it's still just as fun to shoot as any of my modern prone rifles.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the load data.
Ok.....found my loadbook. My loads in the BJ AI version, which has 4gr increase in capacity over the parent Lapua case, are 47.9gr RL23/BR-2 142 precision ballistics/ 0.0015” neck tension in 0.0135” neck walls produce 2950 fps in 30” Bartlein 5r tube. A safe starting point in a standard 6.5 x55 In a modern action should be aound 44gr and work up
