6.5x47L will not feed from magazine

I have a Pierce short action, 700 clone, chambered in 6.5x 47 L. Its in a Bell and Carlson Stock in a BDL configuration. The problem I have is that I cannot get the thing to feed from the magazine. I load up 5 rounds chamber the first OK. After that it's a crap shoot as to how many will chamber. When it hangs up the nose of the bullet contacts the barrel below the bore. What I've noticed is as the bolt goes forward it noses down towards the magazine. I've tried bending the mag spring and replaced the follower with no improvement. Any suggestions on how to make this repeater repeat?

I had a .260 with a BAT VR that did the same thing. I had my gunsmith notch the feed ramp and it cured the problem.

Proper mag lip adjustment is a major factor, and only a few thou is significant. Brownells has a nice tool which also includes the specs which helped my issues tremendously.

+ 1 what CharlieNC says. Definitely get the mag lip adjustment tool from MPA or Brownells. You can make do with a small adjustable wrench or smooth lip pliers if you are careful. Just make up some dummie rounds, sit down and have at it. I run my AICS mags about .4220 at the rear most straight part of the feed lip and about .4250 in the front most part with my 6.5x47 with a Defiance. You can try rounding and smoothing out the sharp edges too which helps. It just takes time and try not to get frustrated.

I must have been lucky,,I have two 5 round and one 10 round AI 308 mags and shot somewhere over 3,000 rounds of 6.5x47L from them through a Stiller Tac 30 in an AICS 1.5 chassis and never had a single failure of any kind feeding ,extracting or ejecting,,if using a different stock I think the bottom metal has to be a certain distance from the receiver for everything to work right,,

Be sure the rounds are all the way back in the mag box and make sure the follower spring is in properly and it is sitting flat in the box, not tilting up or down. I would take the time to polish the follower as well if you have not already done that. BB

Thanks for all the suggestions. If I can't make this work I just might rechamber to 6.5 creedmore.
Rechambering will not gain you anything over what you already have. Is it possibly an alignment issue or clearance problem with your internal magazine, with the B&C stock? You haven't said what your bottom metal and internal box mag was originally made for. Is it for a 308 based case, 223 or other? I have a 700 SA in a B&C stock with aluminum bedding rail. The mag box didn't want to position properly at first in this stock, it took a little clearance work to fit straight.

I had many headaches with a Remington internal box mag. It was on a 700 sps tac 223.
Luckily for me, the rifle is only a range gun so a chassis with AICS pattern mags solved the problem.

I have a 6x47L and run a 10-shot magazine on a R700 SA with no feed problems. Switching calibers is not going to fix this, in my opinion. Perhaps a few pics would help. BB

Highly unlikely that will fix it......try a shorter seating depth for S's & G's.

Make up 5 crapmore dummies and try to feed them out of the magazine, you don't have to stuff them all the way in the chamber to see if they'll work.

I'd pick up a machined follower to try instead, if you're using a stamped one.

I have two VR's , one a 6x47, the other a 6.5x47, both in McMillans, both BDL's, and they feed like shit through a goose, fast or slow, no matter.

You are 100% correct. Not sure where my head was when I made that comment. I believe my problem is the feed lips on the action are undercut. Therefore the case is not elevated high enough for a reliable feed.

Thank you
Ron

feed lips.jpg The feed lips are not correct. The case does not get high enough for the bolt face to reliable engage causing the feed problem.

Thanks to everyone who assisted in this.
