The problem with Varget is the lot to lot variation. Even with the same speed it doesn't always shoot the same and sometimes you can not reach the same speed because of pressure. If you like what you have you better find a bunch of 8 lb.ers. of the same lot......jim

I have about 7lbs of an 8lb jug left. Shoots OK for me. To get the same speed out of RL15 I have to increase the charge about .5 grn. I don't know if that speaks to the inconsistency of Varget, or I have a slow container of RL15.

Has anybody tried some of the faster powders in their 6.5x47's? I was thinking about 8208. It shoots well in my 6BR with heavy bullets in place of Varget or RL15.

Any updates?

Anyone shooting either AR Comp or IMR8208XBR with 140g bullets in their 6.5x47s. I have H4350 and RL17 to try. Will likely try N550 also. I would really like to use either AR Comp or 8208, but not sure where to start workup.
Hope to get my barrel this week, so hopefully I can post some results next week.

Just started to shoot my 6.5x47L after brake in. Try some H4350 not that good. Then Varget with 38.0 grs with 123 Sierras not bad but not great. Ran out of 123's and went to 120gr Sierra .010 off lands. Well started shoot .250 and low 3's . Last group was a .175 at 100 and then the rifle broke. What a bummer. Will try again on Sunday.

After reading all the above, all I can say is every gun is "different"

40.8 gr. N550 hammers with 130 grain Bergers in 6.5x47 Lapua

I "WISH" I could get the above load to work in my 6.5x47L! I know several who shoot 139's, 140's and 142's with no problem in their 6.5x47! My gun does OK with the above.

But with 34.9grns Varget, I can shoot bugholes with 130 Bergers, ran into one other person who stated the same!

Mine love 123 Lapua's! And I can bughole with these! And have the speed I want!

Another person and I compare loads a few months ago. Our guns took completly different loads!!!!! What worked in mine would not work in his and vise-versa. His loves 140 A-Max's, but I tried everything around his load and couldn't get a good group!

Now figure this, 120smk's with 39.3grns RL15 in my 6.5x47 is deadly!!!!!!! And Lapua 123's are about the same!!!!!

Start at 40.0 gr. N550 and work up, you should find an accurate load around 41.5 gr. N550 in your gun at around 3,000 fps.

I'm shooting either N-140 or N-150 with a 123 SMK. Charge weight for either powder is 39.5 gr. This is safe in my rifle, although in the upper node. I'm using a chamber with .125 freebore, so load with caution.

I don't shoot the 130's, a friend of mine does. They run 2,960 fps.

OAL = Over ALL length, so, base to tip.

So is there a secret book of his that I dont have? Last time I checked the 123amaxs are not listed in "his books", and the reason for this if I remember correctly is because the 123amaxs are a fairly new bullet and came out while his latest book was in the process of being published/printed. So, "May I ask again where you saw/read/heard this?
