6.5x47L Barrel break in and loads to chamber form brass

Hi All,
rifle is at smith's being put together (Rem 700 s/a ADL (trued etc.), 22" Trueflight barrel #3 contour, chambered with a "No turn neck", Original stock to start with, bedded).

I'm getting excited, and need to do something (should be hunting, but...), so I was thinking about some barrel break-in loads, that will also form my brass to the chamber. Thinking of doing the following... Full length size and then load with standard federal small rifle primers, a load of Varget (ADI 2208) 35grains, and some lighter projectiles (90gr speer/ 100gr). Then go through the break in process (20 rounds), and then shoot the rest to form brass and get some trigger time. The plan is then to do some serious load development, with 123gr Scenars and hopefully 123gr Amax, and a couple of heavier projectiles, yet to be determined. Add some CCI BR4 primers, Varget. Then have a nice light weight and light recoiling rifle to go hunting with in the hills and mountains (on foot).

Any thoughts welcome, Do you think 35grains of Varget is about right?
cheers

I think you'll have better luck with H4350 and similar burn rate powders with the 123gr Scenar and 123gr Amax. With the Amax, sort by bearing surface and spot check the DIAMETERs for inconsistencies.

Forget about "forming brass to the chamber"- just get straight into it. Lapua brass is very uniform and I got fantastic accuracy immediately, even being too lazy to run the brass through a die before loading.

Nothing wrong with 2208 (Varget) for 123s. Start at say 37grs and work up in say .3gr increments. I find 38 ideal and have seen many loads about 38.5grs but the usual warnings apply..

H4350 is awesome! definately don't waste the bbl breaking it in like that. Start load developement right off the bat. i would load h4350 and load 1/2gr and crony if possible to watch your speed, sometimes you can find a node that way and load up to find "max". cleaning in between rds too.
then load groups of 3 verifying velocities and groups cleaning between sets..etc forming cases and gathering data along the way.
I never liked the scenars for hunting so i went with 130Bergers then got better using 140Bergers, now i won't change a thing.
you'll love it for deer hunting!

FB, ChrisNZ, Rem06,
thanks for the replies. Like I said, I'm starting to get a more excited, now that the work has actually started on action and barrel. It is a little ahead of schedule, which is nice :).

The scenars are not for hunting. I hope that the rifle will shoot 140's, but as long as it shoots, anything between 120 to 140 grains works for me. I wouldn't mind a light varmint load either, 90 to 100gr.

Don't want much, do I ;) ::)! I'm not expecting miracles, but nice small groups is part of the reason for going with this caliber.

Which primers are you guys using?
cheers

cci450's

IMHO use one bullet! the 130-140's are great for LR hogs too! dont bother trying to learn two drops!
i fail at this but "beware of the man with one gun, he likely knows how to use it very well"
i at least stick to and learn how to place that first shot, not worry about which bullet i have in the chamber.

I hear you, and tend to gravitate to the best load worked up in the end, anyway :) And dead is dead. Those are, indeed, wise words.
cheers

I would give vvn150 a try. It has been the ticket in both my 6.5x47s. reloader 15 also works well in the cooler months. was starting to see some verticals when the temps went up with the 15. enjoy the new toy..
