6.5-284 fire form loads.

I got some factory winchester 150gr 284 ammo. I was thinking of pulling the bullets and necking down to 6.5 then loading a
"140ish" 6.5 bullet over the original powder to form. Is this a possibility or bad idea? Rich

Do not use the original powder charge, do not even use the original powder unless someone from the WW factory is ready to put his ass at stake about the precise type and lot of powder they used on your cartridge lot.Period.
If you want to fireform in 6.5-284, use a cheap moly plated bullet and a light load,10 to 15 grains) of Vihta's N350 or N 105.It won't give you the instant forming of say Bullseye or Unique loads but it's perfectly safe, very accurate and a lot of fun.
