6.5X47L and H414

Anybody try the above? I was playing with QL and it seems like a good fit. Hodgdon compares it with 4350 which many run but case capacity is at a premium. Kinda the proverbial "3 lb. of poop in a 2 lb. bag"! ;D

Made it out tonight to try 4 loads, 3 each at .5 grain increments, behind the 123 grain A-Max and ignited by 450's. The highest produced 3000 fps and showed no pressure signs. It was pretty close to full however was not compressed. I have been shooting Varget at 2900 fps and that's about maximum in my gun, Savage PTA w/27" 8tw Brux. Without stating the load lets just say I could never fit that much H4350 in the case without a hydraulic press! This is a 20 year old lot of H414 and if I purchase new I will have to start low again. I am going to load 10 at the highest tried to check accuracy and do another 2 loads at .5 increments to see were maximum is. I don't think its too far away because everything I've read says 3050 fps is tops with the 123's. I will report my findings when completed.

H-414 is same stuff as WW760, shoudl you care to $$$ a can of newer powder.

I have tried surplus " D85" powder, which in my 6mm widlcat ( of about same capacity as a 6 X 47 Swiss Match ) performs in-essence as
" ball " 4350. It sure seemed to me to perform like 4350.

I myself have had great results ( and no bad experiences ) shooting H414 & WW760 in a large capacity .224" cal wildcat.

One thing I do urge you to do/try, is fully wring-out loads using a variety of primers, especially the FED LR Magnum Match.
These have always performef for me superbly ( in boththe .224" cal wildcat and th e6mm wildcat ).

A final thought:
VV160 strikes me as being just a tad slower than WW760, so is close to IMR 4350 in that regard. It's another stick powder.

Thanks for the info 357, wasn't aware of the 760 twin.

I can try the Remington 7 1/2 that German Salazar found in his tests to be of high brisance. The CCI 450(Small Rifle Magnum) comes highly recommended but most use stick so a switch to the 7 1/2 with the ball could be better.

I've played with H414 on a few calibers & usually the performance & accuracy is pretty good. However, it definitely needs a magnum primer. Big difference in velocity & accuracy with a standard primer. This is the powder that made me start using mag primers on every ball powder.
