6.5x47L and N550/560

Hi,

Just playing with Quickload on my 6.5x47L-AI and I get 2930-2950 with 139gr bullets using near max loads of N550/560... Does anyone with a regulare 6.5x47L have experience with this combo? Seems off, same speeds as a 6.5-284 with 14gr more powder).

6 Dasher,
Could you do me a favour and run a 7X47Lapua in your programe useing 140gr ballistic tips BC.485 26" barrel 1 in 10twist useing H4350 or H4831 what other info do you need.
Thanks Bob

I used a Hornady 139gr SST for your bullet, should not be far off.

4350: 41.5gr at 59.900psi... 2796 fps
4831: 43gr full case,108%)... 2686 fps

Hope that helps.

Hmmm really expected it to be better velocity than the 6.5 as it is the same weight projectile but bigger bore the powder by my chart H4350 is equivalent to N550 We actually use AR2209.
Will just have to wait and see in real time.
My BR30 produces 3,000Fps MV with 115gr projectile using 32.8 of AR2207 or H4198

Hi,

QL is just a reference. Different powders are never the same, even if they list it as being the same burn rate. This could be why it shows a difference.

PS: The speeds I listed in my first post are for the ackleyed version, not the standard 6.5x47.

6Dasher,

Have you compared case capacities of the "regular" 6.5x47 Lapua and your 6.5x47 Lapua given the Ackley treatment?

I am in the middle of having a reamer made for a 7mm variation on the 6.5x47 Lapua and had been considering whether the Ackley treatment might be in order depending upon the velocities the first one obtains.

Thanks

I don't have cases yet, but it will not do much in the volume department. I think 2-3gr of water capacity at best. The reason for going AI is the shoulders.

Jim,

I have been thinking 6.5x47AI Lapua myself, add possibly shortening the neck just a hair to add just a little extra capacity. Sort of like the 6BRDX is to the 6BR.

Have you talked to anyone about a reamer??

Thanks!!

Mark

Jim,

Have you seen this?

Maybe QuickLoad has a general problem with Lapua Scenars i.e. the database may be wrong for the 139gn also?

Alan

I had noticed that mistake years ago on my very first version of QL purchased at NECO's, I believed it had been corrected...I didn't notice anything wrong with the 139's data.
However in the 6,5x47 Lapua, I had very fine results with 123's Scenar Moly with 38.5 of N550 and a Fed 210 Match.

I pointed that 108/123 out myself a few months ago, either on BR or here. Changed the data a few years back and know of the issue. The 139 data is correct, it just about does what I see in real life on my 6.5-284.
