6.5x47L action concerns regarding firing pin.

I'm getting a 6.5x47L built for hunting on a Defiance Machine Rebel action and was just curious if I would need to have the firing pin bushed to keep from getting premature pressure signs or if this was mainly just a concern on factory actions with?

If they're asking, it's likely folks have had problems, especially with that cartridge (from what I've been told, it's pretty common).

I'd have 'em do it. Easier/Cheaper/Better.

I'd shoot it before doing anything. I had a Rebel with a .072 firing pin tip and it worked flawlessly with 6BR cases and stout charges. Defiance has a better firing pin geometry and smaller hole than Remington which explains why they handle pressure better. The best thing to do is order your action with a small firing pin tip (.062). But, as mentioned above, the larger pin seems to work very well too.

I have a deviant that's run 6.5saum and 300ackley, never seen any of the primer signs shown by actions that could use bushing.

That said, I've seen quite a few that could use bushing that still shot lights out.

Thanks for the help, my smith ordered the action so I really don't know which size firing pin he got. Will give him a call and find out.

I thought it was more to do with how much too big the hole in the bolt face was than the size of the pin,,if the hole is too big for the pin allows for a place for pressure to push the primer in,,

I am usually wrong though,,

You have it right. It's the excess space between the pin and the bolt face that allows tbe primer cup to flow around the pin. I have had a couple faces bushed and kept the full size pin with no issues shooting 6br, which is a known primer popper.

Call Defiance and ask them. The Nesika actions we're awesome and from what I have seen of the defence actions they are super tight.
