6.5x47L 130 VLD IMR 4451

4350 out of stock local again so picked up a couple cans 4451,,8 twist Bartlien 5R 27 inch barrel,,started at 39 grs and got 2675 fps, worked up .5 at a time and at 43 which is cram full was 3020 fps and a little ejector swipe, the 42 gr group was tight and at 2945 will get another look and seating depth test,,if it will tune in and average like the one group I will be very happy,,

the 130 VLD at 2945 doesnt give up anything in the wind to the 140 at 2800 and shoots flatter to 1000,,
sure would be nice if a powder in stock local will duplicate H4350..I dont like hazmat fees

Thanks for the info, I was wondering how 4451 would fare in the 47. I recently tried the same with IMR 4166 and was surprised with the results. Very similar to Varget, with a 130VLD and CCI450.

Again thanks for taking time to share your results. I hate that theirs such limited data for this round. And the short supply of regular powders is getting old. Thankfully my local store is well stocked with the new IMR powders.

Thanks for your results guys.
How are the new IMR powders as far as temp sensitivity, are they as good as Varget and H4350? Has anyone tried them with the 140 class bullets.
Thanks in advance. 8)

I'm starting to run out of H-4350 so this thread is very timely. I see the NEW IMR powders all over the place. But Haven't seen H-4350 or even VARGET since late Fall of 2014 when we had a small amount show up for a short time.

Of the new IMR powders which one would be best to try? It appears that IMR 4166 is close to Varget. IMR 4451 close to H-4350 then??

Have had a hard time finding any H4350, so tried both IMR4350 & IMR4451 . Got decent velocity & accuracy out of IMR4350, but also got 50fps increase in velocity when shot over the chrono at 80* relative to what I saw at 40*F. Chrono'd IMR4451 on the same two days and saw 3-4fps difference, max. Also get a tad more velocity and on the average, better accuracy with 4451, in 6x47L, 6XC, 6.5x47, & 260 Imp 30*. Tried Berger 130VLDs out of the 26" Krieger on my Bighorn, and with CCI450s, got 2853fps out of 40.6grs.

All that was back in March (thus the wide swings in temps), and all I've got is the notation of "vg accuracy" on my chrono data sheet for the 6.5x47 - no group size or anything else. Now that I've got a couple of boxes of the B130 AR Hybrid Tacticals, I'm going to have to get some of them loaded and see what sort of results I can get with 4451.
