6.5X47 Powders?

Anyone try something else besides RL15 or H4350 with the mid weight bullets?
Looking at my results, I think that RL15 might be a touch too fast for the 123s in a 28" barrel. Has anyone got to 3050 with the Berger 130s?

Try H-380 with Bullets up to 123 and H-414 with heavier weights.
The best overall powder still remains Vihta's N-550.

Be very careful if you try #550. It can be quite temperature sensitive and cause pressure problems under some circumstances.

Darryl Jones had very good luck with RL15 and H4350. Varget also shot well with the 120s. You may want to try the new Norma URP,Universal Rifle Powder) with the 130s. It has a burn rate similar to H4350.

RL15 only works "okay" for me,.26 -.27s) and that is at a lower node than what I want to shoot at. Once I speed it up, groups open up to .5 or better until I start to get light pressure signs... then they tighten back up somewhat... right now temps are mild so those loads would not be "cool" once it gets up into the 80s and 90s.

Norma powder isn't available anywhere near here,Mobile, AL). and the only shop that carried VV is discontinuing it.

Another poster said he was having luck with 380 and 414.... I likely have full 8lb containers of both of those and some data for those would be great.

I'll try the 4350 next trip to the range, but in my experience 4350 only works really well in larger capacity cases.

I haven't seen any Varget data either.... I have plenty of that to try...

I should have my 6.5X47 up and running in late Spring. It would be great if we could get a dedicated page, side bar) on powders, loads and bullets for this case. What do you guys think?

I have had a 6.5x47 going since Christmas.
Have found it goes really well with 120 Sierra's and 2208,Varget)
I am using a 30" barrel 1-8" twist.
I am getting 6br accuracy at 3/5/600yds. Not sure how it will go at the longs. This case is tough like the 6br and likes to be run hot.

"BigBore": How much Varget were you using? Which primer? What velocity? Did you measure ES and SD?

"Kaferhaus": Which primer did you use for your RL-15 loads? Did you measure ES and SD or just group size?

Thanks.

I am using 38.7g - 2208,varget) with 120g MK's. I use CCI BR4 primers. I have not got my chrono results with me at present, but the SD and ES were very low.

Just keep in mind I use 2208 here in Autralia, varget may not have the exact same burning rate, but I think it is the same.

Regards, Cameron

Cameron: Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try, with suitably reduced starting charges, of course). Any idea what your velocities were?
