6.5x47 Lapua to 1 Mile

I shot my 6.5 Lapua for the first time to 1 mile today. It took me 3 rounds to get on target, then the next 4 hit. The red dot is 3 inches. All of them hit tip first. It took 22 mils elevation and .9 mils windage. I'm running the 140 VLD's at 2830 with 40.6 grains of H4350.

I don't understand 22 mils? is that 22 moa?It must have been pretty nice conditions to see a 3"dot at 1mi with 22x scope ???

Yes, that would mean 22 dots on a MilDot reticle... Multiply by 3.4 and you get your MoA amount. Allo Mr Farrell, I need an 80 MoA base for my rifle. beep beep beep...

MDM,
First off, AWESOME shooting and AWESOME rifle! If I might ask, who made the barrel? and did the same person do the break? Are you useing a software program for your ballistics?
One big question, what is felt recoil? and how heavy is the rifle? Do to back problems I have to check out all the things that would effect me if I was to build a rifle some what like yours.
Thanks
Greg

Matt - I don't recall being able to see the dot on the target. My cross hairs cover up about 3" at that distance anyway. The plate itself is a 25" man hole cover. I do know that I only had my scope set on 16x and that was plenty. First shot was about 5' right and 1' low. I made a couple more adjustments after the next shot and hit 4 consecutive times. I had spotters set up at 1100yds calling for me.

Ace - The barrel is a 27" McGowen Bull and a local smith put on the Badger Thruster brake for me. The whole rig weighs about 16lbs. I use Ballistic for the Iphone and Ipad. 22 mils = 75.6 MOA according to my ballistic app. My scope has 33.8 mils of adjustment which comes out to about 116 moa of adjustment. So, I had plenty of room to spare with a 20 moa base and 10 more moa from the Burris rings. I would equal the recoil somewhere between an un-braked .223 or 22-250, so yeah, the brake does it's job and the recoil is nill.

good job , lets see a mile is 1700 yards I think, well done, that will be my next build been wanting 6.5 47 L for along time

One mile is 1762 yards or 1600 meters.

Great job MDM. What I like about your set up is that you did not spend mega bucks on the most expensive products in the bis. YOu used what I consider average or less expensive components and was able to connect @ one mile with some homework and testing.
As you experienced you dont need a 60X power scope to shoot at this distance. For some reason people think you need the hubble telescope to see the target. Simply not the case. I run a 4.5X14 and it works just fine at the extended range. What you do need is an accurate rifle and ammunition combo and a target that contrasts well to the background your shooting against. And ofcourse a nice day helps as well.

My target at the Farm is 1" steel that is 24" wide and 36" tall. In retrospect I should have mounted that plate sideways so I had more windage surface area to play with.

Lots a folks dont have the opertunity to shoot at this distance and are missing out. It sure makes 1000 yards seem simple after you do it enough.

Nice solid rig MDM I always like a inexpensive rig that shoots great just as yours does.

Because of a different thread on here about the 6.5x47L, what primer are you using? Oh, and very impressive shooting by the way. I was wondering how bullets in the 140 range would do at long range. Thanks for showing the proof!
